No secondary but no rejection. DOes this mean no hope or are they really still looking at me (doubtful). IS anyone else in this boat?

hey doc, when were you complete last year and when did you interview? i was complete 11/12 i think and havent heard anything...

Has anyone called UCLA lately? Just wondering if the b***h fest is still going on in the admissions office.

I submitted my AMCAS in July also and didn't get a secondary from ucla til dec. I called the adcom office a week before I got it and they said, get this, that applications are reviewed at random. So there's definitely still hope.

i got a secondary to ucla, but my stats suck. does anyone know if they ever accept students with slightly below avg stats but with interesting extracurrics?? :scared:

OMG, UCLA is famous for accepting "interesting" applicants. I know a third year there and he said that they look for things that make each student unique and that the MCAT range was low 20s to the 40s. Good Luck!

I'm still waiting on a secondary from UCLA, but my MCAT is super low, so I don't know if I really have a chance. I'm guessing they just haven't gotten to my app yet, and that's why I don't have a rejection. I'm also out of state, so I'm sure that won't help. I submitted my AMCAS in mid-June, and it was complete a couple of weeks later (end of June or 1st of July).

I received pre-secondary rejections from UCI and UCSD in November and December, respectively.

UCI doesn't even send you an email if they reject you - you have to check out their status page. I read on this board somewhere that UCSD gave out their last secondaries in December. I sounds like there's still hope for UCLA though! :luck:

UCLA and UCSF are the only UCs that accept out of staters. Don't take the UCI or UCSD rejections personally. They would have rejected you even if you had a 45 and a 4.0.

I can definitely attest to the fact that UCLA will pick "interesting" applicants to interview that may have below average stats...I recently interviewed there and am out of state with decent grades (3.83) and a mediocre MCAT (below 30)...though I have an interesting background and experiences, for what it's worth, I am both caucasian and male...I was also told that they select applicants for interviews and review applicants post-interview at random...and so don't give up, it's a great school!!! 🙂

yeah wtf they are taking forever. I'm getting the same vibes I got from UCSF :scared:

Not true about UCSD. They accept out-of-staters, not many, but a few.

Actually, someone posted recently that UCD plans to increase its acceptance rate of out-of-staters.

Im new to the forum and decided that i should finally register to give you some insight and hope..... i was complete at uci, ucsd, and ucd at the end of sept ive since been put on hold at uci and ucsd. I havnt heard anything back from ucd but and heres the good news i had given up on ucla and checking their status page but last week just for kicks i checked it and realized i received a secondary from ucla on 12/23 but they didnt send me the letter informing me until 1/6. so im guessing that ucla is still looking at primary applications and since they review secondaries until march their is still a glimmer of hope there...

so if you're put on hold at uci, is that pretty much hopeless?

who did you guys hear from about ucla being more accepting of lower scores??? is it through a friend who actually goes there or was that a rumor? just wondering what your sources are cuz it's almost too good to be true!

I cant necessarily vouch for the fact they accept people with lower scores, but I received a secondary way back in August and interviewed there recently (my MCAT is below 30 and I am not an URM)...I figure that if they had a problem with my scores they wouldnt have interviewed me in the first place...so dont give up! 🙂

Is anyone else still waiting for a _secondary_ from UCLA? I have a 29 MCAT and great ec's (although no research) and I've decided that my primary fell between the seats of someone's car! I submitted in mid-July...

yeah, it's true. our class is an interesting mixture of interesting people. The AdCom does a great job of selecting people not just for their stats, although our stats are pretty high across the board (avg MCAT ended up being around 34 with a wide range of scores).

I took MCAT in August of 2003 (submitted AMCAS appl in July), got secondary in December 2003, completed it in January, interviewed in early March. Here I am.

DO not loose hope! People were being interviewed last year in April and were being admitted even then (bypassing the wait-list).
YOU MUST SHOW GENUINE INTEREST IN UCLA AND LET THE ADCOM KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO COME HERE!

Forgive me if I've missed something, but what's the B***h fest?

And UCI and UCSD have given me secondaries but nothing from UCLA.

For anyone who has already interviewed at USC, UCLA, UCSD:
How far in advance do you schedule your interview when you receive the invite?

has anyone gotten post-secondary rejection from ucla? I have been waiting for an interview for over 3 months and haven't heard anything from them yet

For both USC and UCLA, my interview was a little over a month from when I received the invite.

No secondary for me either. Have they sent out pre-secondary rejections yet? I'm usually in that group. 😉

For those of you have received a UCLA interview this year, did you get it through email, snail mail, or by checking your status page?

i just called ucsd this morning, and was told that the admissions committee is aiming to make decisions about sending interview invites to all the people who have been put on hold by the end of jan. not particularly sure if this is good news or bad for me seeing how ive been on hold for 3 months. but, hopefully this info is useful to someone.

Sorry... I think it was from another thread. A week or two ago, people kept calling UCLA and posting that the lady who was answering the phone was not very nice. That's why I was wondering if anyone had called lately.

My invite for USC came on Dec. 9th and the only date I could schedule my interview on was Feb. 16th.

I checked my status page to find out that I had received an interview on Jan. 7 (been complete since Nov. 8) When I called the admissions office, they said that I would be receiving information in the mail about how to schedule an interview.

I can confirm movement on UCSD's holds for interview list... I got rejected today and I was on hold since November 🙁

me too...letter came by snail mail today

Meh. I'm a goner for sure. I guess I should know about the SD hold/reject by Friday or next week. I have a question though, assuming I do get the letter, I just sent an update package yesterday via priority mail, but I'm on the east coast, should I email them, and try to appeal? I know I'm a pessimist, but I just was wondering what plan of attack I should do in case the worst happens?

Thanks.

I tried it and it was denied. I called Yvonne Coleman to figure out if UCSD was planning on interviewing me or not since I had been on hold since November. I have an interview in LA in mid-February so I was wondering if I could interview at UCSD on the same trip, only if they wanted to interview me in the first place. She told me to write a petition letter, so I did and faxed it to them the next day. I called today and she told me my petition was denied 🙁 Keep in mind that I'm an out-of-stater so that surely hurt my chances quite a bit. Good luck to everyone else. :luck: :luck: :luck:

I've been on hold at UCSD since November 1st and I got the reject today.

I'm a CA resident and I'm considering appealing/petitioning. Oh, I also did my undergrad at UCSD - which is maybe why I got the secondary 7 days after my AMCAS was verified! (July 29)

It's a great place to be I can tell you that! I had a blast in San Diego as an undergrad.

I don't know anyone whose gotten a pre-secondary reject from UCLA. Maybe there just waiting till the bitter end so we won't have time to petition! 😡

i know two people who did last year. oddly enough, one got into stanford and the other got into davis. go figure... ucla is quite random by the way - i think davis comes a close second of all the uc's.

seriously; what about the people still under review? they wouldnt go through the holds before reviewing everyone would they?

what do you mean la and davis are random?

what i mean is that i wouldn't put my money on getting into either school just on the basis of my how competitive an applicant i think i am.

just got the ucsd rejection in the mail today. was on hold since early october. goes like: "the admissions committee has finished the review of all applicants on hold, therefore we would like to inform you that we are no longer considering your file" =(.

Damn you UCs!

I was unaware we had to submit a petition. What's the difference between a petition and an update letter? Bah. What goes into a petition? Did you update? Thanks.

I'm actually in-state. But I have been out-of-state for school, which according to my pre-prof advisor, is going to bite me in the butt. Because UCs like their own. Meh.

One other question. I know the UCSD thing is still sore. But I'm really anxious, and was wondering did your status page change and say that a final decision letter has been sent out? Thanks.

Got the reject too and 🙁
Yes it says final decision letters sent....

I didn't know what I petition was until I talked to Coleman, the interview coordinator. Basically, it's just like an update letter except for the fact that I mentioned that I was going to be in Southern California in mid-February and was wondering if it would be possible to interview at that time, if they were planning on interviewing me anyway. I did update them on my fall semester and mentioned why UCSD was my top choice.

I knew it was a long shot at best so I am not too surprised by their decision. I still have an interview at USC so my hopes for California dreamin' are not over yet. Good luck to you! :luck:

I just checked my status page and it doesn't say that a final letter has been sent. My petition was denied so I assumed that it meant I was rejected. She said a letter was going to go out today. Maybe there is a very slim chance that my petition was denied but they might still interview me later 😕 I think that's just the optimism talking
