UCSD. If I could teleport there now, I would.
Picture it: it's a crisp November morning. You look out and see rolling mountains ahead. You drive to the gym, but not before slamming a California burrito and apple kombucha from one of those random roadside places. You take a hike down Ho Chi Minh Trail and see one of UCSD's libraries overlooking the cliffside. You almost die after slipping on some running water flowing through the ravine. You laugh off the life-threatening event and realize you are now exhausted and have to hike back uphill. You question whether you have a heart condition within the first 10 steps. Halfway through, you have to take sitting breaks. By the second break, you question your will to live and whether you could make a credible 911 call that would involve getting airlifted to your car like a beached whale. By the time you do make it back, your legs feel like cooked noodles but you suffer for In-N-Out anyway. It's been a wonderful day.
I have more stories like this, including guided meditations at Potato Chip Rock and catching the beautiful sunset, not realizing we would still have to hike down in the dark, without flashlights, and potentially being stalked by a mountain lion. Tears were shed, fears were faced, lives were risked.
It's San Diego.
