Is there a good website out there that outlines UCLA's curriculum? Is there patient contact in the first year? Is there a dual MD/MPH degree available? international rotations?

Cant give you much more than that, as I'm the last of the old curriculum. Patient contact within the curriculum was minimal for us oldschoolers, but could easily be sought out through working at student-run clinics.

Dual MPH degree is available. You can do international rotations your fourth year, there is an International Health Interest Group that deals with exactly this kind of stuff.

Gotta go study for my exam this afternoon. Hope this helps.

I'm part of the guinea pig class for the new curriculum. We started patient contact in October, through monthly visits with our individually assigned preceptors. In our doctoring class, we've learned head & neck exam, lung & heart exam, peripheral pulses; we've also had experience interviewing standardized patients and writing SOAP notes. One of the selectives available for academic credit involves seeing patients at the Salvation Army Clinics (3 sites: one working with families, one working at a homeless shelter, one mobile clinic/van working with homeless patients on the street). You can also volunteer at these same clinics without signing up for academic credit. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions about the new curriculum. There are many elements that need to be tweaked, but our class is extremely articulate about concerns and the administrators seem responsive.

(P.S. Weeble, good luck with your exam!😉 )

Thanks! 🙂

Hey, how many exams do you guys have this time round? I heard for midterms it was only one?! 😱 😉

Yep, one 3 hour exam for 8 weeks worth of material. Not bad at all I say. There is also a PE test and small anatomy practical.

Man, that's unbelievable. Does it actually take you three hours or is it an hour-and-a-half exam and you're given three hours, like us?

Yeah, the new curriculum has been quite interesting...it all depends on how good the course directors are. Just trying to stay afloat and pass. Good luck Arginine and Dr. Xavier. 🙂
