To anyone who cares about the dental profession, patients, working conditions, and just basic human decency here is an email from Dr. Chris Biddle. I have known Dr. Biddle for several years and he has always been someone who is straightforward, authentic, and works hard. In return for this, UCLA SOD has treated him and many other faculty and staff very poorly. In addition to several other faculty this year, he has also chose to leave UCLA.
In his email below, he directly states that UCLA School of Dentistry administrators tried to screw him over even though they knew they were breaking University Policies. He mentions a "pervading aura of negativity" throughout the school, how another faculty named Dr. Paulo Camargo mentioned problems in an email that were "just the tip of the iceberg." Dr. Biddle concluded by stating "My wish for students, staff, and those faculty who wish to challenge the status quo, is to keep exposing the obvious issues in the UCLA School of Dentistry. The only likely pressure to create change would seem to be ongoing exposure inside and outside the school."
If you plan on working at UCLA SOD as a staff or faculty or attending as a future student I urge you extreme caution. Many have claimed the school is abusive and if you choose to come here and you suffer, then that is on you for choosing this place (and also the status quo for their abuse as well). For those of us still in this mess, I suggest you either leave or speak up or litigate. The best way to drown is to not move when you are on a sinking ship. Either fix the ship or get off.
