Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of taking the course Biochemistry CHEM XL 153A at UCLA Extension with the professors Syed and Dzialo.

Does anyone have experience taking this course or with these professors? I'd like to take on this course while working full time.. I'm hoping it will be a fair class with good professors. I couldn't find much about these professors online.

Also: Is it necessary to buy a parking permit? I'm not familiar with the UCLA campus.. is there anywhere I can park for free and walk a bit? I hope I can avoid buying a $135 parking permit for just this one class...

Thanks for any input 🙂

I can't comment on the course (you can search them on www.bruinwalk.com for a rating), but I attended UCLA and can tell you that parking is certainly an issue. The extension building is in the town of Westwood, not the regular UCLA campus. In Westwood, there are many parking lots that you can pay for to park your car all day- they range from $3-$9 and would probably be the easiest way to handle it. There is free parking in the neighborhood area on Veteran avenue between Levering and Weyburn. I kept my car on that street for almost the entirety of my senior year because my roommates and I rented out our parking spots to save money. There are other free parking spots in the neighborhood around the Levering/Weyburn corridor, but they're almost always filled. The only issues with parking in that area: 1) Street cleaning days on Thursday and Friday make parking difficult to find at certain times or incredibly easy (I think the cleaning ends at 2?) 2) You have to be a strong parallel parker 3) Sometimes you simply cannot find a spot and are forced to go pay 4) You'll have to walk close to one mile to get to the extension building, but it's not that bad.

Good Luck!

Hi! I'm taking Biochem 153A with Dr. Syed and I just had his midterm this week. It was fairly easy if you studied on a religious basis like me. Also, if you took Biochem as an undergrad it was a breeze. (I also work 45 hours a week). I also only commute for this one class and I didn't buy a permit. I just pay the regular $8/night parking fee. Not worth getting a permit. Hope this helps!!!!

Biochem 153A is not difficult if you put the work in. I guess it also depends on your instructor but mine required a lot of memorization to do well.
