finally their adcom gets off their arse and starts sending final decision letters post-interview.
Who else's status page has a date next to the 'final decision letter sent' category
how was your interview experience and what are you predicting your ultimate decision will be?

good luck; i actually got rejected post-secondary but my status page said final decision sent and I didnt get anything for a good wk and a half; you might be waiting longer than you think...

I am curious to know the outcome.

your interviewer was also the same one who screened you for secondary and interview? Is that what UCLA does with all applicants or are you a special applicant (disadvantaged, URM, etc.)? My interviewer didnt know **** about my file before i got there. i had to spend much of the time answering questions that I had already answered on their secondary.

from what I have been able to gather, there will be some rejections in the 1/25 batch. somebody just posted on the rejection thread that they also got their 'final decision letter sent' box checked for 1/25 and they haven't even received a secondary so you know what that letter is going to be.
now we need to find out if there are also some acceptances in this batch as well.

Did you send a letter of interest post or pre-interview. I'm hoping for an interview and I just had one of my pathologist submit another LOR.
If you sent a letter of interest pre-interview, I would be very interested in knowing what kind of information you included.

I did a search on a last year's thread. It looks like there is one month gap between the first batch of decisions sent and the second batch. So all of us are in it for another month of waiting. 😡

I truly hope that's not the case.

I doubt it. I know they have an important adcom meeting around the middle of February. Usually after that one a lot of decisions are made. so most likely, around another 2 weeks before the next batch if not earlier.
I'm still interested in how this batch went. Did anyone receive their letter yet?

ok, so I was like one of the first 15 people who interviewed in early ocotber and I had no status change this week. Does this mean that I'm basically either waitlisted or rejected since they should have for sure met for my app already???

I know that the way ucla works is that thre are several committees rather than just one, and then those committees make a "recommendation" for a student and then that goes up to the dean of admissions who basically signs it.

Could it be that some of the committees have met already, and that is why some of us are getting letters and some aren't??? or are they just waiting to send all the waitlist/rejections in a different pile, or maybe they're just holding on to our files because they don't know what to do with us yet??

Or maybe I'm thinking about this more than I should..... 🙁

canuck, best of luck. When were you complete at UCLA? I was complete oct 26th. This may be some good news indeed. Also, are they calling for your particular situation (after you explained that you're heading to L.A. for SC) or just in general to all applicants. I ask because I thought UCLA makes invites by snail only.

Just a quick update, I called the office again and they told me, not to our surprise, that they are running a little behind and that they were able to send out only a few decision letters (I'm asumming that these are the lucky people who got their letters sent on 1/25).

So maybe 1/25 batch wasn't a big one and there might be a bigger batch on the way. Totally my speculation.

did they give u any info on when the next batch would be sent?
well usually their adcom meets around the 15th of the month. last year their february meeting was a little earlier than that (they had decisions out around the 12th)
what other info did that office lady provide you. Did she say what kind of decisions (acceptance, rejection, or waitlist) were included in the 1/25 batch?

I didn't ask whether or not this batch contained a variety of decisions. I should have. 🙁 But I have been bothering them alot for the past two weeks and the last time I called before today, she told me that the decisions will be sent toward the end of January (must be 1/25 decisions) or sometime in February. Today, I get the feeling from the way she talked about 1/25 batch that they were only able to review a couple files. She said that only a very few decisions were sent out. I really don't think we can conclude anything from this, but to think that they are really running behind. Maybe in February, they might be able to sent a bigger batch. That's what I am hoping.

Keep me updated. I hope we get our decisions soon.

i kind of doubt decisions are made in 'random' order. that would be kind of stupid. ucla is known to have many subcommittees and maybe just some subcommittees are faster than others at reviewing files.

he's top dawg on the executive committee. If the subcommittee can't come to consensus on an applicant then the candidate is forwarded to his committee (this is what i have heard from previous applicants).
i wish we knew somebody on the inside who could give us the absolute specifics on how they do things

I know there is a special subcommittee for URM/disadvantaged applicants. From what I have been able to gather, this subcommittee is one of the few that was able to give out final decisions as part of the 1/25 batch

the best way to find this out is to find who was annierlend's interviewer. usually your file is reviewed in the subcommittee that your interviewer is part of.

Thanks, opinionkitten. The waiting is worse knowing that the letter has been sent. I can't stop wondering if this batch is accetances, rejections, or waitlists (or mixed). And it's so hard to focus on school these days! 😉

today being the 3rd day after final decision letters were sent and since mail usually takes around 3 days to travel across the country, we should start finding out what was in those batch of letters in the next few hours as mail for the day is delivered.

that's what they say to stay safe. They know the way pre-meds would react if the website said 3 days and then for some reason (maybe excessive holiday mail traffic) the letters took 4 days to get somewhere. There office would then be bombarded with phone calls from hundreds of from nervous applicants.
i remember when i got invited for interview the time between the status page change to 'scheduled for interview' to me receiving the snail mail packet was 3 days and i live hundreds of miles from LA.
