Palms area is decent...it is one of the cheaper areas in West LA (about 4 miles away). Prices have been going up in the area the last couple of years since the area has been in higher demand. There are some nice areas and some not so nice areas in Palms...make sure to check it out before you move in.

You can also use the some websites:

CraigsList Los Angeles

Fee associated (~$60)
WestSide Rentals

Also, Kristy sent out an email with a list of entering classmates already in the area if you are interested in moving in with someone in our class.

Good Luck!

I just found a studio at el greco at 1030 tiverton. prices are comparable to other studios in the area. since the dental school is literally down the street, i will save time commuting so the price is worth it for me.

So where are all of you UCLA dental people living? I'm just curious if most of the dental students live on, near or away from campus, and if that affects their studying or lab time or how the distance benefits/hinders them etc... 😱

Personally, as an incoming first year, I thought it would be best to live within 5 miles of campus but I know a couple of people who live further away because it's cheaper.

Please give me your input and advice! 🙂

has anyone received or heard anything about the first year housing list from kristy?

Are you referring to the e-mail she sent earlier this year with the names of classmates looking for roommates? She sent it out twice. If you are referring to UCLA graduate housing, you have to apply for it yourself and there is about a 2 year waiting list....

I got a one bedroom across street from the dental school at $1175. Since coming from Berkeley where housing is terrible, both physical condition and price-wise, I simply love my place. If any of you is still looking for a place, you gotta check out my place, 886 Hilgard. I am not sure about the vacancy though.

I understand the housing price in this area is extremely high, you can still look around for a deal that is out there. I was told that my place was used rented for $1400. Also, if you go to rent.com and can get $100 discount on the first month rent.

Good luck.

is it late to find a decent place or a possible housemate?

there's more than enough time....summer is a time when lots of people move out. I would suggest using the differerent websites and start hunting for a place in early August so you can move in sometime late in the month or early September.

is anyone going to be living in the palms area? have you heard anything about it?
