Does anyone know why UCLA is considered "OOS unfriendly"? It looks like they accept about 17% of non-residents, which isn't great, but about the same as some other "OOS friendly" schools. I know it's ridiculous to get into to begin with, but just wondering if there was something specific they looked for in the non-residents they do accept. Thanks!

Dude, it's not 17%. Even LECOM won't accept 17%, well maybe they will lol. Check your numbers.

Sorry, poorly phrased. I meant that 17% of their class (according to their predents profile, I think from ADEA) is composed of non-residents.

ADEA Guide says last year 828 OOS applied, 20 interviewed, 13 enrolled. This is the main reason why I decided not to apply (other reason is the long supplemental).

So yeah 13 out of 88 (15%) is close enough to 17%.

(1055 InState applied, 110 interviewed, 75 enrolled).

as of yet, ucla is pretty oos unfriendly (though, it's also not very friendly to instaters). they tend to be very picky with their interviews, but an interview from them is VERY good. like if you dont pull down your pants they'll take you -- they really dont waste time interviewing people they arent prepared to accept (i'm willing to bet of the stats posted above most of those people got into UCLA that interviewed, but some of them went elsewhere to SF or harvard or some other crazy place)

it should be interesting to see if the tides start to change. i know UCLA undergrad is trying to recruit more OOS/International (all the UC's really) so they can help with the budjet crisis but if that transfers to the professional schools, only time will tell.

if you dont have like 23AA though, OOS is a long shot.

Damn, guess I wasted some money. Oh well! Thanks for the info though...nice to know it's not worth getting my hopes up for anything (not that I really had anyway!)

UC schools are starting to accept more OOS students than they used to. This year at UCSF 21% of the class is OOS compared to 17% last year. I would stipulate that this is due to the economy and accepting a few morew OOS's means a couple hundred thousand more in tuition during the first year. I would guess UCLA will have the same thing happening soon if not now,

I think in 2009, every OOS person that interviewed at UCLA got accepted. Now, some enrolled elsewhere, but still. Getting an interview there is a jackpot.

It looks like those numbers above (20 interviewed, 13 enrolled) indicate the same thing. If you get an interview, it's looking really really good for you.
