The ucla secondary asks what was one of your most important non-academic activity. first question is whether this ought to be a college activity, or can it be a high school one? Second question is whether speech and debate would be considered a non-academic activity; it totally turned my life around in high school so i thought id write a blurb about it...

I'm not sure about UCLA, but most medical schools only care about post-secondary experiences. The only exceptions is your SAT scores, which some schools require. UCLA does not specify what time period to discuss, but I would assume that they mean college only. Good luck.

try to write a post secondary experience and try to stay away from high school stuff. They really want to see your contributions and accomplishments in college... that's what my friend at UCLA SOM told me. But you might want to call UCLA and check with them. Good Luck ! 👍 :luck:

I would think speech/debate is academic. I also think it would be okay to write about pre-secondary experiences that shaped your view of medicine. e.g. I went to a magnet high school for health care professions...there is no way I could avoid talking about it when discussing the role medicine has had in my life. It really depends on the experience. Good luck! 🙂
