I haven't gotten jars for teeth collection, contacted any dentists, not done any health related crap either so its nice to know there are others sort of like me. I won't get back from Europe until August, I hope it'll be alright.
Oh by the way, I have bunch of these teeth collecting jars, if anyone want to buy any from me. Also, I have a bottle of fresh formaldehyde, and a bottle of, ugh hum, used formaldehyde (do you need a preservative to preserve a preservative?). If you need them, I can let them go for 1/2 of the original price, whatever that price may be. The only down side is you have to pick them up from me at UCLA. I'm not going to mail these items and then pay for shipping. Wouldn't be worthwhile by then. Email me at [email protected] for a response.

For people who have gotten housing offers, when does your contract start? Are we allowed to move in on that same day? My contract (when I accept the offer online) will start on August 15th, and I was wondering if the housing office will allow me to move in at a later date and thus start my payment later as well (I want to take a trip...quite possibly my last in a long while!).

I was just wondering...but how much are these housing offers you guys are getting, for the studios and the 2 bedroom aparments? I'm doubt I'll get housing through school, but I'm curious about the price ranges.

You can change your move-in date. Your only option is Sept 1st because orientation is Sept 14th - Sept 22nd (8 am - 3 pm).

How do you change your offer? Do you pay your initial payment then send an assignment change request form online? That's kind of what the website said, though I didn't understand it that well. Thanks for being so helpful!

I don't know how. A few months ago (when I went to the housing office to ask questions) I was told the move-in date could be changed. You should contact the housing office and ask them to change the date for you. You can go to a web site to send your request. That's the best way because you'll get a response in writing. I am NOT at home at the moment and I have no access to all my records. This library keeps logging me off. I'll post the link to the web site as soon as I get home.

Is this a lot cheaper than getting an apartment outside university housing?

And hello everyone, I just came back from Vegas. Tao is such an awesome nightclub.

I don't know if it's cheaper but the apartments are close to UCLA SOD.

Those rates for housing are pretty competitive since those are all for your own room, and I think all that weyburn housing is pretty new. You probably won't find somewhere that close ucla that will give u internet, basic cable, and other paid utilties for that price.

I used to share a room, so I paid like 650, after all utilities. Right now I'm looking at getting a place with a friend near the dental school. It's 1 bedroom w/ a separate living and garage parking for 1 car for $1600. We'll probably make part of the living room into a living space.

Hi from the biomed library 🙂

what are you doing there?

DAT_Student....are you at UCLA?! By any chance, were you at the Ashe center today in the morning to do your health clearance? I was there, and I could've sworn I heard your name being called!

Anyway, I visited the housing office at UCLA today as well, and it turns out that you can change your move-in date if you so wish; I changed mine from August 15th to September 1. Also, I took a tour of Weyburn Terrace's 2 bedroom apartment. It's actually a very small living space, but very cozy looking. Westwood Village is just down the corner which is a great thing. Also, for all of you California residents, IN N OUT is JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!! That's too bomb diggity!

yes, they called my name. 🙂 I was in the second waiting room. 🙂 I'll be there again on Friday July 14th.

Fabulous. I also went to the housing office to ask a few questions. 🙂

hey mrxle, were you able to get an estimate of the approximate dimensions of the room size? im trying to figure out if my stuff will fit. thx bud.

I have IKEA furniture which I used my last 2 years of college...one Twin Size Bed, and one Jerker desk. You can get the dimensions of it on the IKEA website. Anyway, just eyeballing the room during the tour today, I got the feeling that if I put both of those pieces of furniture in the room, I would've already taken up a majority of the living space. However, you never can be too sure until you actually put stuff in there. What kind of room did you get V? Studio or 2 bedroom?

By changing the move-in date to Sept. 1st, does that mean we don't have to pay for the $532.67 charged prior to Aug. 15th?

Since the rental office issues a pre-approved parking permit application
upon check-in, would my chance of securing a Weyburn Terrace parking permit
be reduced if I arrive in September instead of on August 15th?

I think I did. On my way out, I saw two students. Are you from San Diego? The lady at the front desk said something about a student from San Diego. I couldn't even imagine that student could be you. I was the one with blue jeans, gray sneakers, tommy shirt w/ horizontal blue & white stripes, glasses, short & tight hair. 🙂

I believe if you change your move-in date to Sept 1st you won't have to pay for Aug 15th - Aug 31st.

They told me that they have plenty space for everyone. I think it's best to double check with them via http://www.housing.ucla.edu/ask

I asked them the exact same question. The lady told me they try their best to accomodate everyone (in other words, parking permits won't be issued to only those who move-in first). I got the feeling that your chances would not be reduced to secure parking at Weyburn. Since I live in Los Angeles, I figured there was no reason for me to be there from August 15th to the end of the month...it's just too early.

By the way dat_student, I'm going to be back at UCLA on Friday to check my TB test. If I see you I'll be sure to introduce myself!

Edit: I just cancelled my 11 o'clock appointment. Something just came up. I'll have to be in the Bay Area tomorrow Friday July 14th. I guess I'll have to redo my TB test in Sept. (I'll email you my picture over the weekend. Let me know if you saw me).

BTW...how many appointments do we need to get the health clearance done...??? And how much is the parking there? Thanks.

mcshow2, read my earlier post in response to L8dyV about the 2 bedroom Weyburn apartment. If you get anything larger than a twin, good luck to you haha...your room will basically be that bed and that's it.

hey ikea might have a queen bed that you can climb up to and the desk is recessed underneath. that might be kinda neat, but on the same note kinda weird and maybe unstable.

Alright, I'll be gettin a full I guess... (can't do twin.) I'm sure imma have to fit the girl in there sometimes.... 😎 I also wont be having a big desk, if any at all for that matter. I heard dental school was easy 😉 But seriously, very small desk.

Do people have their housemate info yet? (l8dyv said she did.) How do we get this? I'm kinda needing to know so I can figure out what to bring/buy.

housing sent me an email stating the info (her name and email) of my housemate and you can contact them to work out the furniture and other issues. as to when you recieve that letter may be dependent on your move-in date (that's my guess). my move in date is officially aug. 1st but not sure if that is set in stone at the moment. hopefully that can clue you in. c ya l8r sk8r.

I was there to check my email accounts. I am now very excited. Today, my boss gave me more classes to teach (summer session). My 1st class is tomorrow (Friday July 14th). Aug 29th is my last session. That'll keep me busy for the rest of the summer.

hmmm. I now need 2 more appointments because I'll have to redo my TB test. It really depends. Some people need one appointment. Some need 3. Best to contact one of the nurses. Here is the number: 1-310-825-4073

Just made my initial payment and accepted my housing offer. How much is everyone's 2 bedroom per-month rent? Mine is $920...man, I can just feel my debt racking up already. I was wondering, how did you all make your initial payment? Does financial aid cover any of these things?

Anyhoo, I just thought I would start this thread so we can kind of have our "mini-forum" to ask specific questions, etc.

Hello Sheri,
So glad everything worked out. If the move-in date is Sept 1st you can still move in on Sept 7th but you'll have to pay for Sept 1st - Sept 6th. If you contact the housing office (phone: 310-206-7011; fax: 310-206-4222; www.housing.ucla.edu/ask) they may be able to make exceptions for exceptional cases. You may want to double check via the web site so that you can get a response in writing. BTW, orientation is Sept 14th - Sept 22nd & Sept 25th is the 1st day of classes. 🙂

I just noticed that MetroFi is providing "free wireless Internet" to residents of many cities in the Bay Area (e.g. three locations in San Francisco, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, etc). Does anyone know if "free wireless internet" is also available in LA & nearby cities??? MetroFi doesn't cover LA.

I was wondering if someone could forward me the address that we are suppose to send our final transcripts out to. I know it's supposed to go to Noemi, but I'm not sure of her exact address. Is it the same address that was on the business reply mail that we sent paperwork back in? Thanks.

For those who already did their cpr certification, did u actually need to study the american heart association recommended BLS for Healthcare Providers manual before the class? Or can u just wing it?

Today, I noticed some laptops have the expansion slot, type III. My laptop has one type II expansion slot. Do we have to have the type III slot or two type IIs/Is???!!! 😕

So I've been deadset on buying a thinkpad and not another dell, so I decided to call and see if these specs are really requirements or just recommendations.

I talked to Mary Tawfall, one of the tech advisors, and she told me that all that is really required is a fast enough processor, decent amount RAM, and large enough hard drive space (for saving a lot of images). She even said that most new laptops off the shelf should be fine. They also would like a 4 year warranty, but I think even that is up to us.

I asked specifically about the expansion slots and she said not to worry about those. But she did say that XP Professional is required and that if you come loaded with the home edition they will make you upgrade it.

Hopefully this helps out some of you who are still shopping around.

If you guys still have questions for her, her number is 310-206-3591.

I've owned an IBM Thinkpad T42 for over a year now, and I plan on using that laptop in dental school. I think everyone is going a bit too crazy over the "requirements."
