I must be late in everything. I'm finally mailing in my financial aid tomorrow, and I just mailed my Bruincard etc. information only two weeks ago.

Don't worry. You're not late. Last time I checked they said they needed to upgrade their computer system for the 06/07 cycle. They don't seem to have processed anything.

CPR certification??!!! 😱 Is that a requirement? 😕

🙂

yeah, it's #9 on the letter from Dr. Bibb about all the things you need to do, like instrument fees info and bruin card and oriantation info....

it says that we are required to take a CPR course and have a 2 year certification (valid through June 30, 2008). they suggest using www.ezcpr.com where you can get a discount if you claim to be a dental student.

don't worry....we still have plenty of time...

NSF ranks UCLA as a top research university

The University of California, Los Angeles took the top spot among public universities for research spending in fiscal 2004, according to a new report by the National Science Foundation.
...
Johns Hopkins University was ranked No.1 among all research universities, both public and private. UCLA ranked second behind Hopkins among all universities.
...
The foundation determined the rankings by the amount of research spending at each institution, including funding from industrial, federal and other sources.

The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that was established in 1950. Surveys about research universities are compiled by its science statistics division.

I'm currently looking for private housing since I am not guaranteed a spot at Weyburn. I've been adviced by a housing representative to not start looking for housing until late July because that's when the listings for September will become available.
From my experience at Davis, to get a decent housing it is almost mendatory to look for housing half a year early. The 1 month search period recommended here seems to be a little sketchy.
Any opinions on what I should do or where to look?

Did you apply online for housing? The housing people will randomly choose students for weyburn housing as well and in June they are supposed to contact us if we are randomly chosen. Its a $30 application fee. Here's the link to the UCLA housing application:

http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site...toid=0670064a9a7d1010VgnVCM1000008f8443a4RCRD

I don't think it will be difficult to find private housing from what I've been seeing. It's just so pricey. Good luck and see yah!

westsiderentals are pretty good, but you have to search through the ****ty appartments to find the one you like.

craigslist is also great. but use the LA one:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/ then click on appartments.

you can easily find a place in a month or so in LA. The appartment market is huge here.

good luck!

I go to school in San Diego, and half a year early is unheard of. No one gives their 30-day notices that early...most wait until the last moment (30 days) before their expected move out date to declare their intended vacancy. The same holds true, for the most part, in Los Angeles (where I'm from).

In Davis, we are on annual housing contracts. So there's nothing to declare if we were to move out.
Anyway, thank you all for your help!
I wish we could stay at the orientation phase forever. So that way we get to be excited bout school and kick it with one another without stressing over school. At this moment, I cant imagine going to school 8-5 and study 4 hours everyday for the next 4 years would feel like. sigh..

It seems I am the only person that is at least half-worried about beginning dental school at UCLA.

I am already in summer mode, so I can't imagine jumping into the 8-5 that will begin on day one of dental school. But, the thing that scares me more is that UCLA is top notch. So... though I am very excited about meeting you all and spending my next four years with you... you smart people freak me out a bit (lol). Luckily the school is P/NP. At this point, I promise I am not one of the people gunning for High Pass.

When are you all planning on moving to Westwood? I will be having a welcome party at Weyburn for anyone around the beginning of September. More info. to come on that...

Does that mean you got your contract?

Also, why so early? I don't think we start until mid-september.

if the weather continue to be as nice as it has been, you will have a great time in LA!

i hope the weather is great!

Just this morning I made my initial payment for a studio in Weyburn. The cost went up from last year, it is now $974/month. Kinda blows, but I'm cool with it. It's just gonna be a biotch to get all the furniture I need.

There's a lot to do in LA, hope you have fun until school starts KAP.

Thank you Mrxle

Is anyone every gonna post, "the cost went down???" This is so depressing. By the time we pay off all of our freaking loans it's going to be time to retire.

Screw that, welcome to MCShow2's Dental office, 5,000 for a cleaning, 10,000 per filling, and hell no do you get a free toothbrush.

nice! in that case you only need a handfull of recurring patients. and you can work several days a year...

and give them free lollypops to keep them coming back...

Hiya there, welcome and nice to meet you--great!! 🙂 I think macs(the new ones comming out that run dual platforms) should work assuming they can run windows programs and follows the minimum specs they gave us.

wow, amazing!

ladies and gents,
we are required to collect 100-150 teeth by january.
i'd see incoming students from other schools trippin about this being their matriculating requirement. and i was so glad that i didnt have to go thru this hassle. but i was very wrong. we are required to collect teeth!!! 😡
this is real cool. i'll be in taiwan until sept. while i should be able to find some teeth during my stay in this overpopulated place, i wonder how i'm going to carry the formalin jars filled with teeth on a 13hr flight.

anyway, i hope you guys will have just as much as fun as me in collecting "cavity free, bicuspids, first molars, and upper front teeth" 😍

just got that email from Noemi!!!

just when you thought you had enough things to do (from that list of reqs in Dr. Bibbs letter).... but wait!!!!!!!!!! There's MORE!!!!

the heath tests, the teeth, the CPR certification......I JUST WANT TO HANG OUT AT THE BEACH FOR A FEW MONTHS!

Cheers!

i just remembered my physics and realized there's a huge pressure difference according to elevation. so i guess i cant seal the jars tightly and throw 'em in my luggage.

am i suppose to keep my jars half-sealed and carry 'em with me on the airplane?

haha... you might get some funny looks if they check your luggage.... or a full body cavity search if they find you suspicious...

since you guys got into ucla, I have some questions for you guys.
I live in california right now and trying to apply ucla this cycle.
I got my bac. deg at ucsb and did my pre-reqs in CC. my gpa
and dat scores are pretty good but I don't have lor from any dentist.
I heard uc schools are hard to get in without any research
experience and dentist letter. Is it true? should I even bother applying?
