I got accepted to both UCLA and LLU and am very confused which one to choose. If anybody can give me any idea of the pros and cons of both I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Well you know....here is what I think. I think that both schools are good schools. Infact I think all of the California schools are great....each may have their strengths and weaknesses, but overall, they are all good. I think that it is the student who makes the school, not the school that makes the student. You will succeed at any school you choose, so long as it is what you want. I think when choosing which school to go to, choose what suits you best. For example: taking into accoung cost of living in the area, if you have a spouse (where they would work), if you have children (where you would rather they go to school), traffic, religion (LLU is very religious, maybe you wouldnt really like that), etc.

I had to choose between USC, UOP, LLU, and UCLA and will be attending LLU. I have a good friend who also got into various schoos and will be attending UCLA, so either way I can tell you, you will be surrounded by good people 😀 .

Good luck with your decision!!

hi.....

congratulations to everyone.........
all the california schools are great as dralaura said.......and everyones opinion differs...........with due respect to everyones opinion i would prefer going to UCLA over LLU if given a chance.....

there are 3 advantages...

1) UCLA is in the heart of LA so the patient pool is great compared to LLU......so you will have very good experince in UCLA.....LLU also has good...but UCLA has better than LLU

2) As everyone knows that UCLA has the best post doctoral programs as compared to all other schools ..... so after graduation u have lot better scope for doing post doctoral studies or PhD in various fields from UCLA than any other school.....

3) LLU is religious as dralaura said ..... UCLA is not at all religious and people usually dont prefer being religious in this proffessional field like dentistry...anyway its on ones opinion to be religious or not....

well both the schools are good........but my opinion is to opt for UCLA

LLU is a very good school but UCLA is way better.....
well this was my personal opinion correct me if i m wrong.....

but i will suggest going for UCLA 👍

I have to agree with angel 82 on reasons 2 or 3. I think if you are wanting to do post doctoral studies or research, UCLA will definitely make that easier. However, I plan on specializing and still plan on going to LLU 😀 .

I do have say though that as far as patient pool goes, don't be fooled. UCLA is known for having difficulty getting patients. While it is in LA, for those of you who live in LA know it is in Westwood, a "more rich" part of LA....and in probably the area with the worst traffic.

As for Loma Linda, I have a friend who is in the program now and there are more than enough patients for everyone. Infact as far as clinical output goes, LLU (at least a few years ago) was considered #1 in clinical output.

You know one thing to consider is where you want to live. If that is important to you. UCLA is is in a nicer neighborhood....with Santa Monica nearby....its beautiful....more of a city life. Loma Linda on the other hand is in San Bernardino 😱 ....not so pretty....though you do have arrowhead not too far....but still. However, the cost of living is much less and there is less traffic. For my husband and I the cost of living being less is important because it will enable us to buy instead of rent. Then when we are done there we can sell or rent the place and move to whereever we choose.

Anyway, I could go on forever about each school and the neighborhoods, and still not tell you where to go. 😀 . If you have any questions on the areas though, let me know and we'll talk...I have lived in LA for pretty much my entire life, since I was a year old....so I know a thing or two. 😛

Well, it depends on ones decision, the reason why i suggested ucla is because my cousin goes to ucla and he mentioned that it is excellent in all the aspects. i also have a friend who graduated from llu. but again the decision is yours. You know even i have lived in LA since long and have done research on all the schools. Just do whatever you feel the best and do some more research.
good luck on your decision. and good luck for your future.

Thank you all very much for all your replies. The input really helps. I have heard that ucla does not have a great patient pool as it is in a very nice location. ucla has great specialty programs but again very difficlut to get in. on the other hand, at llu at least I might stand a chance to get into their specialty program.
all said and done, ucla IS a world renowned institution and that is the thing that is keeping me from rejecting their offer.
at this point i am not worried about the cost of living or anything else. all taht matters to me is to study at the best school.
Please comment.
Thank you all.

If you are not taking into account cost of living or anything like that, well.....I think they are both schools are great and UCLA has more prestige and is in a nicer area....so I think that gives it an extra point. 🙂 What is keeping you from saying no to Loma Linda?

If it is what you have heard about the patient pool....I can't imagine it being that huge of a problem....and I'm sure they work with all of you on that.

Thanks dralaura
The only thing keeping me from saying no t loma linda was the name UCLA. but otherwise llu has everything i want in a dental school.
