So still havent completely finished my UCLA secondary, I want everything to be really really good because it is my top choice. I called UCLA yesterday to ask them some questions because i was getting paranoid about taking so long on the secondary. They basically said that their school is rolling admissions and that the secondary doesnt have anything to do with your placement, its the aadsas application that becomes your ticket in line and your placement for review. Then she told me the adcoms only start reviewing applications in october. So for all of you out there that are paranoid about secondaries for UCLA, dont be, take your time with it you have until late sept. Good luck everyone

now if only i heard that 2 weeks ago :scared:

Thanks, great info!

YAY. GOOD TO KNOW! cause i was rushing through it... 🙁
i guess i'll devote my labor day weekend for that...

ps. anyone know when ucla starts sending out interview invites/interviews?

Great info, unless its a ploy by osims to get in there first!! muhahahaha

Just kidding, to bad I sent it in today...I probably should have worked on it more, oh well to late now. Only time will tell.
Thanks for the info osims, if you have spoken to any other schools 🙂

Thanks so much for the info! I was just about to start it 🙂

I just went to the UCLA website, and have found little info about the schools "missions/goals" and what not, and was wondering if anyone else has been able to find much about the school in general? As to why its a good school.

The mission statement is in a weird place. If you go to the Admissions -> 4 year DDS program, this is what you will find:
UCLA said:
The goals of the program are to produce graduates who: 1) possess the preventive, diagnostic, and technical knowledge and skills necessary to provide patients with comprehensive dental health in a variety of health care delivery systems; 2) view their role in the profession from a humanitarian perspective, accepting patients’ dental health as a right rather than a privilege, their patients’ psychological and physical health being the prime focus of their practices; 3) are able to provide socially sensitive and responsible leadership in the community of their practice; and 4) continuously update their knowledge of dental health and oral diseases, their techniques, and their practices. The school participates in the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE).

Otherwise, from what I can tell UCLA is a good place to go to specialize, students seem to work well together, students like the clinic, and it's in LA (if you like that location). Search SDN for UCLA, there are some threads out there that give students' perspectives.

Good luck.

Brian

I cross my fingers for UCLA.

Why cant UCLA be on the east coast, then it would be my #1. Now I dont even know if I am going to fly out there, with the costs of air tickets so high and everything. Hopefully I'll get into a decent East coast school.

Thanks for the Info Osims, i was starting o get nervous about my holding on to my Secondary for so long, you took a worry off my chest, thanks.

thanks bro im also writing my UCLA secondary application right now.

dude you'll get in UCLA for sure.

Good luck to you!

Let me ask for you guys who completed the 2ndary application for UCLA. Did UCLA cash the $60 fee from your bank account?? Since I checked my bank statement yesterday and every schools except UCLA have cashed out the fee.

Actually, I have received an email from them that my application is completed. But why don't they cash the money out? Should I call them and ask if my application is really completed? How about others of you?

On the other hand, Columbia has a message in my aadsas supp. material tap that they did not received the fee yet, but it is actually cashed from my account. Does any one have an idea about this??

This has happened to me as well. I emailed Noemi, and she informed me that my application is complete. However, they start reviewing the application perhaps end of September and pick up speed towards October. So dont worry, as long as its complete, your good to go.

Some schools are like that. For instance, USC cashed my check, but on the online status page, it still says fee not received. I called and they informed me that they have not updated their system.

Have a good one.

UCLA has not cashed my check yet either. Shhh... if you don't say anything maybe they'll forget...

As far as taking your time on the secondary--I did not know that they don't start reviewing until October anyway, but I'm glad I didn't know. There comes a point with me where I'm just done writing an essay. If I knew that I had extra time on it, I'd have that feeling but I'd feel more obligated to spend more time on it. I'm glad I was able to get it taken care of and out of the way sooner so that I could get back to doing other things.

like checking SDN every 15 min
