I was only there for a couple days so I can comment on the places I have been to. Around Bradley seemed very safe, just like a typical airport area I mean, nothing to worry about. Downtown Hartford is hit or miss...some parts are a little shady but most of it is pretty nice and much better than many other relatively big cities. Manchester and Southington-Farmington are really your typical suburban settings - not much to do in the way of tourist stuff but its neat to see a different area of the country.
