I was offered one, but I opted for Buffalo. It was a one-time gift of $5000 (I actually hadn't even known they gave them out, so I called Tricia to ask how it worked and she said it was just one at the beginning, not renewed every year or anything). I'm a Massachusetts resident, 3.843, 21/21/18.

I want you to know that although I'm a UConn student I don't have the appropriate info to comment and I don't want to give the impression I'm ignoring this subject. The above post is more helpful than anything I have to say.

I do know that there's a reception at the beginning of the year where the students who receive the Merit awards are recognised and that there are multiple variations of the award-- with the most coveted going to one student.

alright great thanks!!

well it goes that the scholarships as you indicated in the title are based on merit-- grades, dat, and extras
these vary in number and amount:
a fair number of scholarships are awarded in the hundreds of dollars amount and increase in amount to fewer and fewer and finally only one candidate who receives the most; which will be in the thousands of dollars range (ie 3-5k)

there is no application for these scholarships and the admissions personelle determine the student(s) to receive their appropriate award, based on merit.

furthermore, there are future merit awards based on your performance in years one, two and three of the program; these awards follow the same general pattern as those given to incoming students.
