I am out of state to both. I had a similar situation with UConn vs. UCSF and picked UConn over UCSF. Now UConn vs. Stony Brook. Which one would you go to? they're markedly different and I am out of state to both. WHAT THE HELL lol

I would go to UCONN. I feel like their curriculum is more established and SB has been going through some ups and downs with their recent changes, which I've heard from a friend who goes there. Similar locations (I think?) but I feel like uconn has more opportunities for specializing if that's something you're interested in. Seems like uconn students are generally less stressed and happier than SB, but just my opinion. Good luck and congrats on having choices to make!

I was thinking the same thing. Even though it would be SB's second year for med school curriculum, it's still fresh and I think I have a feeling that I would still be the guinea pig for this incoming class. I'll take UConn.

i wouldve chose ucsf in a heartbeat!
but if its down to sb and uconn then uconn would've been it for me

Could possibly mention to one school how you got accepted to another, see if they have any scholarship money :joyful:. Practically the same cost after all.

I read some negative things about Uconn on here, but a lot of those users were banned so I wouldn't be surprised if they were all the same person. I read positive comments about Uconn on dental town though and I had a great interview experience there. Wonderful presentation and students seemed genuinely happy. They really checked off all the points for a first impression and I was really impressed. I'll always remember the day I saw that huge campus while I was driving down the highway for my interview.

Out of my interviews, SB was my most negative one(go figure). The tour guides were pleasant, but I had odd interactions with 2 D4 students regarding their experiences and another student wouldn't even let my student interviewer use the room for our interview. All of that made me think back to the comments on SDN regarding the lack of "camaraderie" among the students. I also had an odd/rude interview with a staff member. At the same time, the actual office staff were a joy to talk to and I kept bumping into a part time clinician and loved seeing the passion in his eyes whenever he would share stories. I would have loved for him to be the person who interviewed me.

Good luck on your choice. Both are very affordable schools, both have awesome speciality rates and theres no doubt in my mind you'll end up in the exact same place professionally. Your experience just might be a little different, subjectively.

Hey faux, could you possible get an estimate of SB for me for the four years as an out of state resident who switches to in-state residency and report it here? I have my number but I want to see if It matches up with yours. The reason I ask is when you say "practically the same cost after all". How did you arrive at that?

You're right, I was thinking about buffalo. From memory, I don't see the difference being more than 30-40k after 4 years between the two schools. What number do you have?

I also got a few weird vibes on my interview day from the D4s..

I see the difference at around 100K. SB over the four years: 108, 751 (1st year out of state) + 79142+ 68665+67153 = 323, 711. Even if I factor out health insurance costs cause I already have health insurance and food costs given I know how much I eat on a monthly basis, it would be like 310K. UConn after the four years (1st year out of state and the rest in state) would be around 240K once I factor out health insurance and the same food costs.

oh wow, i'd definitely consider uconn more then.

I have had the pleasure of working with quite a few SB students on a recent mission trip to South America. If they are representative of the school, then it would be a pretty awesome place to go. Sorry, I can't say any more about the school than that. I know UConn pretty well though...
