Hey all. Just wondering if anyone applied to, interviewed at, knows about, or is currently in the Osteopathic Internship program at the University of Connecticut. I'm having a tough time finding some specifics about the program beyond what UCONN has on their website.

Thanks!

An old roomate of mine from Nova interviewed at UCONN for a rotating internship(D.O.) and LOVED it....I think he is going to Brooklyn(Mammo) instead...but said the hosp and facilities were EXCELLENT...

I am not sure what residencies they have though???

He wants ortho..and I know they didn't have that there...

You are misinformed about UConn. They have all major specialties present, including ortho. They have an excellent ortho program in fact.
Anyway, I was a student at Uconn and finished 2 yrs ago.
The rotating internship for DO's seems to be primarily associated with the IM department at UConn and the residents have to option of staying in the program once finished with the rotating internship. Like all rotating internships, it encompasses all major fields: IM, peds, ob/gyn and surgery.
The residency splits its time between 3 major hospitals: Hertford hospital, St. Francis Hospital and UConn Medical Center (John Dempsey Hospital).
The residents at Uconn are well trained and are an extremely friendly and intelligent group.
The facilities are top notch at all three, but being located in and around Hartford in my opinion (having grown up in the area) is a negative. The suburbs are beautiful/wonderful, Hartford is a pit.
But overall, one can avoid the perils and pain of Hartford and live close to work in the suburbs, within easy reach of a multitude of outdoor activities: hiking, biking, etc....

According to a DO friend of mine who completed the program, it's really good. UConn, an allopathic teaching hospital, is very DO-friendly. From what I have heard, this relationship works well for UConn and new DO's, as UConn gains a hard-working bunch of docs and new DO's gain a solid residency education at a well-respected allopathic hospital. Connecticut as a state, however, does not contain too many DO's. In fact, I think there are only about 250 DO's currently practicing in the state. Nevertheless, the UConn Osteopathic Internship is a solid program with great opportunities for residency.

JP, have you contacted anyone from the program? Scott Wolf, DO, and Darren D'Agostino, DO, work closely with the program. You may also want to contact Kevin Felice, DO, a neurologist at the UConn Health Center (http://www.uchc.edu/neurology/felice.html). They should be able to answer all of your questions, and may also give you contact information of DO's who are currently in the program.

Hope this helps!
