Never thought I'd see myself posting one of these threads but I want to see what others would do 😳

Basically, I'm deciding between these two schools. Where would you go and why? (If to lazy to post just vote 😀)

Cost of these schools are basically the same for me.
UConn:
Pros: small class size (~40ish), P/F, very high specialty rate, PhD program
cons: middle of no where, seemed clinically weak..(clinics were empty when I interview),

NYU:
Pros: great facilities, located in the best area of ny, close to home (20 mins away), 10 of my friends from my UG are attending, Father is an alum.
Cons: Large class size, not pass fail, much harder to specialize

I'm looking to practice in the NYC/Long island area. It seems NYU has the better rep around these areas but I'm not sure if that matters.

I've been losing sleep over this. Help me out SDN.

It wouldn't be fair to the world to keep that handsome face hidden away in Connecticut!

you forgot to add nyu has more attractive females

I'd go to UConn over NYU, its harder to get into and the class size is smaller.

UConn is wayyyy cheaper, even for OOS. (You can get instate tuition after a year!)

I also wouldn't let location deter you. You have the rest of your life to live in NYC... Why not wait until you are on a dentist's salary and can really enjoy it?

I was originally going to say UConn without a doubt, but then you said for you they are the same price. Did you get a scholarship or other form of help for NYU? Price for me is the biggy, so if they're the same cost I think NYU wins because of its clinical program.

Is the cost the same including the cost of living? That could be significant. Personally, I couldn't care less about living in NYC.

I decided on NYU. (even though SDN seems to disagree 😀) Thanks everyone.

Good for you....it's really tough deciding between two programs where you can see yourself. Good luck, and give us update later on telling us how much you love it!

Go with your gut feeling. No one can decide that for you. Congrats on your decision.

I am in a similar situation as you. I have seats reserved at Buffalo and Columbia. My father is a Columbia College Alum. Both my dad and I are both super excited about me potentially attending it's dental school. I am torn because it is so much more expensive than Buffalo (probs $100,000 over the four years). I understand the mature decision would be to attend the cheaper school... I just do not want to have any regrets

You might want to think a bit on your 100K decision to go do Columbia a bit more then lol... 😎

UConn. Cheaper AND better program? That's a rare combination, my friend.

Unless you think you would be SIGNIFICANTLY happier for 4 years at one school, always choose the cheaper route. Loan money isn't lottery money.

go to the cheaper school.

btw, i can't send you messages znny, I've been trying to contact you! Sorry i haven't been able to, your inbox is full or seomthing

Both schools will cost me the same. Ultimately what led me to my decision was that I had a negative experience with some of the faculty at UConn (Don't really want to discuss it). This left a negative impression on me. Also I do not believe certain dental programs are "better" than any others. Ultimately you learn the same thing no matter where you go.
