UC's wide GPA range

if you all look at the latest version of MSAR, does it suprise you that UCs have such a wide range in GPAS and especially MCAT scores. Like UCD, UCR and to a certain extent even UCI. Basically, who are the students getting into UCs with <3.5?

There is a thread that kinda covers it.
But the reality is... there's a story behind it. Not really sure what it is, but this year's MSAR feels exceptional in a lot of ways.
