YES THEY DO. I see and work with UCSD DO's all the time. My hospital, where I am an ER tech is one of the UCSD rotation sites. I have met and worked with several DO's from the UCSD program in Emergency Medicine. It's pretty impressive because this is a very competitive program and DO's are right in there! And the MD DO relationship is excellent!

thanks for the info,, you made my day/night.. by any chance do you know which ostepathic schools they graduated from.. any of them a nova graduate?

thanks

I don't think the school would really matter that much. Your board scores will say it all, Good luck.😉 😉

This year there are 3 D.O. Family Medicine Interns: 2 from Touro University and 1 from Western University.

to aecuenca2:

do you mean residents in FP? i don't think that there are 'interns' or internships in the allopathic Family Medicine programs.

the catalog of UCSD specifically states that only people who hold M.D. degrees are eligible to apply for graduate medical education at UCSD. this holds true for almost every specialty except FP, i know that COMP has 1 at UCSD for FP.

there are very few D.O.s at UCSD, yes, some say Wade Wong in Rad...and a few others, but few.

the Irony is that the associate dean of graduate medical education at UCSD is a D.O.!!! Cecilia Smith, is listed in the UCSD catalog. Curiously her degree wasn't printed.

So...my fellow D.O.s...write her and tell her to increase the awareness that D.O.s can do medicine at UCSD as well. Isn't herself the best example?!!

PPO-doc,

Yes, I do mean that there are 3 D.O.'s who are starting/have started their internship in the UCSD Family Medicine Program. I received the information from a report that included the names, degrees, and schools of all of the interns this year.

I don't know if there have been D.O. interns in the past, but if Dr. Smith is the associate dean of GME, then perhaps it is through her own example that they 3 of the 7 or 8 Family Medicine spots were filled by D.O.'s.

I agree with increasing awareness of osteopathic medicine. It has to start somewhere; for example there now exists an osteopathic pre-med club at UCSD (presoma.mainpage.net).

I just found out that there is also a third year surgical resident at UCSD who graduated from COMP in 1999.
