For UCSD, you have the option of downloading a Word or pdf form. There are boxes on the form for you to fill in your answer. In the Word version, you can type in as much text as you want and the box will expand. Does anyone know if the amount of text is supposed to stay within the original size of the box?

For example, I graduated two years ago and would like to write more than a paragraph (which is the size of the text box on the form) regarding my activities since college.

Also, the application reqeusts that you list activities engaged in while an undegraduate studnet or you can provide data for the 3 years you consider to be most meaningful if you've been out of college for at least 2 years. Can I list activities I pursued during college (4 year span) and use the text boxes for post-grad activities and other activities to list the activities I partcipated in after college, such as organizing alumni events and volunteering at clinics?

Sounds like a plan and that's what I did too. I typed up my responses for the EC blocks using the Word doc, expanding the text box too. I graduated a year ago and did a lot since, so I wanted to make sure that those activities got "credit" too. When I had asked the UCSD adcom via email about the autobiography and EC grid, they said 1) include everything in your life except ugrad years and 2) use the text boxes for post-ugrad activities and include an extra page if necessary. I just mailed it out yesterday, phew! Hope that helps. If you got more Q's, post them here or PM. I'm figuring thiis whole application process out for myself everyday too.

So we aren't supposed to talk about our undergrad experiences? Do they have enough of that information from the primary?

Well, this is what the UCSD adcom said in reply to my 2 questions:

For the autobiographical sketch, topics to be included are family, childhood, primary and secondary school years, early adult years, and future career goals in medicine. Do not included undergraduate years.

Also, in regards to the activities sheet, use the space provided (the box with the title "List any actvities which do not fit into any of the categories above...). Add a page if you need additional space.

I guess I'm a rebel and I still briefly mentioned my ugrad years, though I believe/hope it was adequately covered in my AMCAS PS and with their EC grid. Having already spent 1 year out of school, it felt kind of weird just jumping from high school to post-undergrad, you know?
