i am planning on finishing my physics pre-reqs this summer at UCSD summer session. I took the first half of physics at my semester-based alma mater, so I'll probably have to take physics 2A and 3A at UCSD to make a full year of physics.

does anyone have experience with UCSD physics courses during the summer? are they easy to get into for visiting students? thanks

ya.

does this mean it's easy to get in? I am talking about the 1A, 1B, 1C series. i will most likely have to take 1B and 1C to be safe.

the good news is that i will be done with MCAT by then, so all of physics will be familiar.

in addition to 1B and 1C during term 1 and 2, do you think it's wise to add another bio course on top of it? I do have to commute to get to UCSD, but i have few other obligations during summer. thanks!

bump

a quick question. enrollment in UCSD summer courses for non-UCSD students begin next monday 4/22. right now, all the classes i want have a lot of open spaces left, so i am optimistic.

on the summer session website, it says that non-UCSD students and other UC students have to fill out an "application" before enrolling in courses via their webreg portal. does anyone know what this "application" entail? do we need to provide our previous class history, or is this "application" just a formality that asks for your name, etc?

I am under the impression that everyone with money and pulse is "accepted" into summer session as long as there is space. is this not the case anymore?

thanks

The Physics 1 series will be sufficient for MCAT based Physics. You do not need the 2 series unless you are interested in going deeper into the concepts.

Both courses use calculus to prove the formulas and a bit of calculus for the formulas, though both are quite algebra based as well.

The application is most likely a formality. I'm quite sure anyone who has money and a pulse can get in, given you meet any minimum eligibility requirements (which I'm not familiar with).

thanks for your clarification!

do the 1A series use calculus for hw problems/exams? or are those problems entirely algebra baseD?

The formulas for hw and exams are predominantly algebra. The proofs are predominantly calculus. Calculus for the homework and exams don't really appear until 1B concepts like magnetic flux, which you will need to be able to take derivatives and integrate. Very simple stuff.
