UCSF 2nd round
Started by ayoon80
ayoon,
i believe ucsf is way past thir second round of acceptances. i'd interviewed there mid-february and was told by barbra that 59 acceptances were made (of which 46 have committed to attend). they intend on offering 82 acceptances and 50 alternates. as for the alternates, priority will be given to students who are not holding any seats at other dental institutions.
perhaps people who have interviewed more recently can shed light on this matter. in any case, good luck to everyone!

I was just at UCSF last Friday. It sounds like they will be making decisions very soon... the committee will meet again apparently this upcoming Friday, and so for those of you interviewed last month, I'm sure you'll hear something.
I was just at UCLA too, and for those of you interested, UCLA has already offered more acceptances than available positions. I guess now it comes down to how many people choose not to go. I was told that 40% of the people who are accepted choose not to attend UCLA.
Both were such wonderful institutions!

hey guys,
i just called ucsf again, talked with barbara this time and got a much more informative answer in terms of when to expect to hear from them...
she told me that monday (3/11) was their last interview group...the committee will meet and make their decisions within the next 2 weeks...so those of us who interviewed early january should hear back within 2 weeks!!!
let's keep our fingers crossed!!!
reena: where did you hear that they will be giving priority consideration to applicants who are not holding spots at other institutions? is that direct info from barbara?

wasabi,
all the information i quoted regarding ucsf was given to me by barbra the day of the interview. unfortunately, if i were offer an alternate spot, i would be removed from the list since i already have a deposit at penn. she also said that last year the 47th spot of the alternate list was given a seat for the 2005 entering class. this may or may not be good news for some of you.

hey guys, thanks for all your feedback. Barbara said I was supposed to hear for sure by THIS week, and I havn't heard yet! I'm thinking of calling again, but I don't want to bug them too much either. Do you know if they simply send out a letter, or do they give you a call upon acceptance?
Hey everyone,
Do you guys know if ucla has the same policy as ucsf in that they only waitlist people who don't have spots at other schools??
This seems like a crazy policy b/c why would people gamble and not secure a position at another school? This would definitely benefit those who didn't get accepted anywhere else but it seems that any applicant waitlisted at ucsf would most likely be accepted at many other schoools...just my thought...

jayjay,
i am unsure what the policy of waitlisting is like at ucla.
as for ucsf, i think their policy is in place to benefit those who do not yet hold spots at other institutions, or perhaps those who do not yet have acceptances. i do agree that i would imagine most who interviews at ucsf already has many acceptances in place.

I interviewed at ucsf and I have zero acceptances at other institutions.
You will not be bumped off the alternate list unless you have already "registered" at another California institution. You guys had me worried, so I checked with an admissions officer today.
UCSF is doing another round of regular and executive reviews today. Wish all of you guys luck! 😀

reena, congratulations!! ^_^ that's awsome; right when I read your post I went to that website to check my stutus, but nothing was marked regarding my status..oh well, waiting continues. I did try calling today, but the phone was busy the whole day..and thanks for clearing that up for us fencer, I think we were all getting pretty worried there!
thanks ayoon!
the official letter also arrived in the mail yesterday--dated march 8th! i've been so excited i haven't really slept quite frankly. good luck to everyone who are still waiting! i'm sure the letters will be coming very very soon! keep me posted!

HELP! I looked on the UCSF webtools site and my "Status" was blank! Nothing had a check mark by it! I was interviewed Jan. 11 and my status was last updated Jan. 15. Does this mean I'm rejected if the status is blank? Oh no...

When I talked to UCSF this past Friday, I was told that they may not be able to get through *everyone* that day (apparently a lot of applications piled up for the executive reviews).
Hence, I think that some of us will hear about our status post-March 15th.
(At least, that's what I'm hoping for...)

I just e-mailed UCSF, and in the shortest turnaround time ever, I was updated of my status. I didn't ask if all decisions have been made, but certainly a lot already has. For those still waiting, call them!

Thanks ayoon & reena...
I look forward to meeting you guys soon!

Regardless, Star, I'm still vouching for you to be my classmate. 🙂
(Well..I'm 95% sure about SF... 4% still for UCLA, and 1% if I come off that wait-list at Harvard)

Beg to differ... but you more than qualify!
Applying late is a bad idea.. I think that we learned our lesson 😎

Wasabi, the e-mail contact for the admissions office changes depending on what your last name is. Send me an e-mail, and I'll see if I know who you could e-mail to. 🙂

hey,
I just called Barbara (finally got through) and I asked her about my status, but she just pushed it back another week, saying the final decisions were still being made >.< doesn't sound good! I asked her if I could email her about my status, she said that they could not give information over phone or by email unless the mail had already been sent out or something, leaving me quite confused...I give up, I think I will just wait for the mail to arrive.

hey ayoon,
did barbra look up your file personally? when i had called last week, she said the same thing to me over the phone. but when i finally received the packet yesterday in the mail, the date of acceptance was made on the 2nd of march, and i know i called on the 11th. i would keep hoping if i were you, they seem a bit backed up... especially with the time spent on answering our phone calls!
good luck to you ayoon.

ayoon.. i really think that you should be fine... i was also told this year that applicants from other areas that traditionally would've come to ucsf have opted to stay in their geographic location this year (he attributed it to sept. 11th)... hang in there.
😀
😀
hi guys...
i finally got thru to barbra as well...*sigh* ayoon...it looks like we're in the same boat...she just pushed it back to the end of march...and said that they didn't get a chance to get through the entire stack of packets yet...so...i totally feel ya...*sigh* 🙁

Thanks Reena and Ayoon! I'm just hoping and praying for the best! I REALLY want to go to UCSF! Another factor that they might consider is my secondary application! I wasn't even considering UCSF and so I only used one and a half pages out of the four pages they gave us to answer the questions. They might see that I didn't put much effort into the secondary app! I might have screwed myself over! Oh no! I should just stop torturing myself and just wait.

But hazelmei... seems like if you did get an interview, then they are evidently interested in you as a potential candidate 🙂
besides... they may even prefer more concise secondaries 😀
