Hi, I am an undergrad student shooting for acceptance at UCSF DPT program. Looking for people who have got accepted there recently. Just wondering what kind of stats will grant me acceptance. Looking for any tips for the up coming years. Thanks.

Well I wasn't accepted but I was number 7 on the waitlist and decided to go to Loma Linda instead. The competition is pretty steep. You basically cannot get anything other than an A in any basic science courses like chem and bio and it would be beneficial for you to have ALOT more hours than their 150 minimum, as your competitors will have a lot of experience.

Undergrad: San Francisco State University
Major: Kinesiology: Exercise & Movement
GPA: total 3.84, pre-req. 3.58
GRE: 550V, 540Q, 4.5A

Hours: 180 inpatient, 70 outpatient
Extra-curricular: Volunteer wrestling coach, young adult leader at St. Luke's Catholic church, Relay for Life participant, Walk for Autism participant, San Jose Fit club member, volunteer in Athletic training at San Joaquin Delta College
Applied: UCSF/SFSU, Sam Meritt, University of the Pacific, USC, Loma Linda
Accepted: Loma Linda
Waitlisted: Samuel Merritt, USC
Rejections: none
Interviews: UCSF/SFSU, Samuel Merritt, UOP (declined), Loma Linda

Hope this helps, even though I wasn't accepted there 😛

Not entirely true...I had B- in all my chem courses, and a mixture of A's and B's in the rest of my pre-reqs. My total GPA was around 3.3 and pre-req was around 3.6. I was accepted to UCSF after the interview (though I have since declined). The point is, make sure you have competitive stats, but don't stress if everything isn't an A. Do make sure that you at least meet their minimum GRE reqs, and try to surpass them. After that, just rock the interview and you'll be fine.

It is so confusing! I am guessing the interview determines a lot if you have decent stats then? What about Samuel Merritt are they just as competitive? With those stats I thought that would be a for sure there!

what types of questions do they ask in the interview??? my goal is also to get into the UCSF physical therapy program but its so hard to figure out what they exactly want!!

I'm in the same boat, curious about UCSF/SFSU. I really want to go there but I think it's a long shot for me. I have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs but am short so far in observation hours, which I plan to complete this summer. Does anyone get in without having the "highly recommended" courses? I only have 1.

Just to reiterate what everyone else said. They look highly on cumulative/prereq GPA. That being said you can get accepted with a lower GPA (3.3) if you have something that makes up for it, i.e >1200 GRE, research, worthwhile extracurricular. Also, although you should have over the minimum amount of hours the settings that you do the hours in is important. Spread the time around a SNF, inpatient, outpatient. It will even give you a better perspective when you go for your interview.

Hey Eforma -

Looks like you decided to make the trek across the country huh? Good job and good luck over there.

Regarding this thread... I don't think there is a magic formula for acceptance. Keep your GPA as high as possible, especially in the sciences, and do as much observation as possible in as many different settings as possible. If you do all that and they think you will fit their program when you get an interview, then you'll get in. They are looking for well rounded individuals, not stats. I was also accepted there this year (also declined).

For the record, mine were:

cum 3.7
science 3.8
pre-req 3.7
GRE V580/Q720
Hours: Over 200 at 6 different places.

Good luck to you all.

It's really hard to say... I have the grades, the GREs, lots of hours and worked as an aide, and I'm a nice person, but I'm really not great at interviews and I got waitlisted. But, then I got in. I thought I was good for Samuel Merritt based on stats, but I got waitlisted there, too. I really think it was the interview since I got into places that didn't interview and had more applicants... it's that whole "well-rounded" thing eh.

Regarding "highly recommended courses," I was told by a faculty member to make sure I had Exercise Phys - since I did my pre-reqs at a CC, it wasn't feasible for me to do the others (I did exphys online at UCLA).
If you're curious about your chances, CALL THEM UP.

Hello,

I am applying to PT school this summer and I am aiming for UCSF. I was wondering how much do the rec letters weigh in their application decision? Do they look for big names or more at what you have done in your rec letters?

Hello,

In our interviews, they never said how much they weigh one thing over another. I think they look at the applicant as a whole- grades, GRE, extracurriculars, letters of rec, interview, essays...so if you're lacking in one area but strong in others you'll be fine. You could always email someone, but I'm not sure if they'd give you a definitive answer as far as big names vs. what you've done.

Has anyone heard about acceptance for the 2013 Interview on this past Saturday?

This weekend some students said they heard back as quickly as the Tuesday following their interview. Others said they heard throughout the week....

Anyone else freaking out waiting??? Haha I am just waiting by my phone!

Woohoo!!! Me too!!! I'm so excited. Congrats!

Got mine earlier today too! Congrats and hope to see you all in June! 🙂

Anybody else hear anything today? I have not heard a thing yet, wondering if I am on the waitlist! I wonder if they have gotten through all of the acceptances yet?

I didn't hear anything yesterday. Hope others will post when/if they hear something. So curious. And patience is not my strong suit. 🙂

I got accepted on Monday (phone call), she said I'd get an email on Tuesday confirming, but I haven't received the email (where you'd be asked to deposit money to save a spot in the class).

Has anybody who got accepted also received the email?

Yes, I received a "Congratulations" email yesterday with the various forms to return if I decide to go there.

same boat as you adh28, maybe i'll see you at SMU?! this waiting game just gets better and better...notttt. starting to wonder when rejections go out..

Yep, fun times this waiting stuff! Do you think it would be appropriate to contact Jane for status? It seems from the other posts that UCSF might be a bit behind schedule with notifications other than acceptance calls.

I also got a phone call on Monday and an email on Wednesday with the paperwork to fill out! Congrats to all who got in! Can't wait to meet you🙂

ps: I have heard that it sometimes take a week or two to get all the acceptance phone calls out... hang in there!

What's the cut off for decision and/or deposit?

I just received an email notifying me that I'm on the alternates list in a top-15 position, which probably means I'm placed somewhere between position 10 and 15. I'm relieved to at least know where I stand, and even moreso that it's not an outright rejection.

Just got an email that I am on the alternate list as well. Gotta loove that! teamsurly did your email specifically say your position on the list?? Mine had no mention of it, just that it's difficult to say because the number of people who get accepted "varies each year."

The email I received said top 15 but wasn't any more specific than that. I'm keeping my hopes up because in reading the forum posts from the last two years I think that despite how cool the school is, UCSF still goes through a large number of applicants off the waiting list.

Teamsurly, I too received an email saying I was top 15. The email also says they are confident that they will pull into top 15 and offer admission between now and June. Congrats to making it to waitlist, guess more waiting in store for all of us

I was put on the alternate list too, with no mention of "top 15". I guess that means I'm lower on the list and probably have a slim chance of getting in 🙁

On a happier note, I'm putting my deposit in for Samuel Merritt this week! 🙂

I received the "top 15" email an will probably decline my spot.
