Yup, I also applied to the JMP and interviewed around the same time (mid-november). I haven't heard backfrom them yet though...

Can anyone help me with some general info about the UCSF app process?

I was one of the late people, so I understand that I'm behind.

My AMCAS was submitted Oct 15th and UCSF finally "received" it two weeks later, so my official AMCAS date on the status page is Nov 1st. They say it takes 3 to 10 weeks to decide if I will get a secondary, so it has been approximately 7+ weeks.

About how long did it take for you guys to get your secondary?

Could someone tell me what the questions are, so I can get them done in the event I get a secondary?

Finally, once you submitted the secondary, how long did it take to get an interview/rejection?

Thanks for any and all help!

Hi there! After UCSF downloaded my secondary, it took them about 6 weeks to send a secondary--but that was in August.

Don't worry if you've been waiting a little longer, because most admission offices have been really really slow since the Thanksgiving holiday. The office at UCSF will be closed from 12/23 through the first week of January. So, you might have to wait a little more...

About questions on the secondary: if you are applying to the M.D. program only, there are no questions. Nada. However, you have the option of submitting two pages of "supplemental" information where you describe your activities and accomplishments. From what I understand (and I am not sure about this), UCSF does not download the activity descriptions from your AMCAS application...so submitting those two additional pages would be beneficial.

There are essay questions for the JMP (UCSF-Cal) and M.D./Ph.D. programs, but I did not apply to either--so I don't have the questions off the top of my head.

After I submitted my secondary, it was about another 7 weeks before I got an interview.

I hope this helps! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

It only took me a few weeks to get my secondary from them. There are no questions . . . just a fee, and I think a picture. You are, however, given the option to "update" any information not already on your AMCAS application. Some people use that opportunity to write another personal statement, others actually have updates, and if you're like me, some don't submit anything. I completed my application Sept. 13, and I still haven't heard anything. I've heard though, that some people are getting rejections now, so that may be the case for me at this point. I don't know yet. Good luck!

Oh no! I didn't see that you could submit additional materials. UCSF received my secondary on december 4th. do you think that i can still add in the extra two pages? i really like the school, and as an out of stater, i feel as though my chances for interviewing are slim. i would really like one, however. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't hesitate to send them more information now. Alot of people send updated or new information well after they've submitted their secondary, so this wouldn't be any different. I wouldn't draw any attention to the fact that you didn't notice that was an option on the secondary though. Just send it as if you meant to send it now. It will get added to your file, and they'll look at it when they review you. I don't think it will be a big deal at all. Good luck!

I was in the same boat as you--I did not know that I could submit the two additional pages. I didn't realize until 6 weeks after turning in my secondary :scared: and they told me that it was probably too late. I was fortunate to get an inteview, however.

Call the office today and ask them what they think. In my opinion, I would submit the additional pages...it couldn't hurt you.

They said I was probably "too late" because my application had already been reviewed.

But it can never hurt anyways to send those additional pages!!! 👍 :luck: 👍

...especially considering that a committee reviews your application post-interview.

Thanks for responding guys. Well, I doubt that my app has already been reviewed considering the holidays and that it was received not even 3 weeks ago. i am just going to put something in the mail today and send it off 2-3 day mail. i know the office is supposedly closed for the holidays until jan. 3rd, but perhaps it will be added to my file before they screen me for an interview. thanks for your input!!

Congratulations everybody!

Sadly, I didn't hear back this month. Did anyone who interviewed the week of Nov. 22 or after hear back?

I interviewed in December and didn't hear back

how do you hear about an interview? is it snail mail or email? and did it really take 8 weeks?

Interviews come via e-mail. It took them about 7 weeks to get back to me, I think.

Only rejections and acceptance and waitlists occur via snail mail.

:luck:

Hi. I interviewed the first week of October.

I think that I saw someone who interviewed in mid-November and was accepted on Dec. 15th, but no one from December.

email for me but my yahoo mail put it in the bulk mailbox so be careful. I first find out about the interview from online status check. I got interview 2 weeks after the completion of my secondary.

Is it me, or is UCSF accepting more out of state people than instate?

seems that way to me too. or perhaps just to get an interview from out of state early you gotta be super special. doesn't it make sense that the super special ppl would get in first?

not necessarily but it would seem so if you think those posting on this forum are representative of the current applicant population...

I just wanted to congratulate all of you who received UCSF interviews and acceptances. 👍 UCSF is one of the few schools that I would consider going to over OHSU (my state school) should I be so lucky as to get into both. Not that I'm holding my breath as an out-of-stater with stats that are just below their averages. I am still waiting to hear from them post-secondary, it was 8 weeks today but with the holidays I imagine it will be a little longer before I hear anything (so I can hold onto hope a little bit longer). Anyway, it's a fantastic school and you should all be very proud of yourselves!
