Hi All.
So We had a Rep from UCSF speak at our school very recently. He mentioned a break down that he had on power point. I wish I would have written it down but I didnt.

It was pretty much the break down of the numbers (application, rejections, number of interviews, number of acceptances sent out and number of acceptance accepted by students, wait list size, etc, etc,)

Does anyone know these statistics?

From what I recall, It went like this:

1700 applications
900 Rejected ASAP
About 269 get interviews
177 acceptances are sent out for fill 88 seats or something like that


does that seem right???

The number accepted seems a bit high...but he told you those numbers in person so I am sure you're right.

Did he mention how many out-of-state are interviewed in total and how many of those are accepted? Thanks.

I'm a little impressed with the fact that only 50% of accepted students end up attending. I thought it'd be at least 65% since the school is considered as one of the top schools.

I just checked 2008 ADEA official guide and it was 147 : 88 ratio for class of 2007. So, your numbers seem correct.

Edit: Read wrong columns on the handbook.

It was only 224 that year.

177 seems alittle high am i right? thats 2 times the seats offered. ucsf is not prestige anymore?

I had that same admissions presentation at my school... I didn't write down the breakdown though.

All I remember is that the presenter said that getting the interview was the hard part. 🙂

Telebeans, its scary how similar our predents.com records are! Same undergrad, same major, almost exactly same DAT, same interviews and at about the same time(yours a little earlier in the cycle). My experience was also with endo and a GP. I hope this gives you good mojo to get into UCSF!

At UCSF, how much of an advantage is it to interview prior to December 1st? I know with some schools it's huge, but others not.

I believe they give out 60 acceptances on december 1st in hopes of filling up half the class.

From my interview, which was in early Dec but before they accepted anyone, they kinda let us know that we were all THEIR first pick. So,..if you match what they want at the interview, you have a real good chance on getting in. Many of my classmates said they felt they nailed the interview and just knew they got in. Now the question, "What do they want?". Well, from my experience, they want upbeat, happy, funny, charismatic people.

So, to answer your question, it's a pretty good advantage in being in the first cycle of acceptances. The second one, 45 days later is also a good spot because many of the people that interview and get accepted to UCSF pre dec-1st are frign dental stud/etts and usually have multiple acceptances on dec 1st. So, UCSF hopefulls will look at approx Dec1st and will have their, "second shot" on approx Jan 15th.

I think it says 3:00 on the confirmation mail.

So they say, they are giving away almost half the class (a little over) on December 1st...

so if have an interview early Jan, Is it safe to say that im going for the next half?

When do they make the decision on the second half?

Can anyone help a little with where to stay and stuff around the school?

Hi, do you remember how long it took for them to send a confirmation email to you? I sent an interview appointment confirmation by replying their interview invitation email last Fri. Should I expect a confirmation email from them shortly?

they send a confirmation by snail mail, not email. you should receive it one week later.
