Hello people who got interviewed at UCSF,

Did Ana Garay-Kong tell you that the interview is "just a formality?" That's what she told me and I'm not sure how I should interpret it. Have I already been accepted based on their # system pre-interview or is she just trying to calm my nerves? Did she tell you guys the same thing?

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks guys.

I hate to say this but I think she's basically saying: "You're interviewing just to be on the waiting list." b/c

1) When she called me, she mentioned nothing about "formality"
2) She doesn't have access to your academic records b/c she's not part of the ad com. In fact, everyone involved in the interviewing process doesn't have access to your records.
3) The Class of 2006 is full.

Sorry and g'luck. I hope you get into a good school, if you haven't already.

🙄 Did you get an acceptance letter from them? Exactly.
Treat all interviews like interviews formality or not. Give it your best shot.

UCSF doesn't interview that many ppl, around 150, and the purpose of the interview is to make sure the applicants are not psycho.

Everyone keeps saying the class is full. IT IS NOT. I spoke with Ana Garay-Kong yesterday, and she said it is 60% full. They are interviewing until March 2nd, and they interview a total of 300 people. At UCSF, the interview is important.

I think that'll be the official UCSF line until March 2nd b/c the 50 or 60% figure was what she said when I had my interview in early January. (People who had interview in early January could back me up on this.)

Plus that figure, even if it's true, is off b/c many Dec and Jan interviewees who got accepted have not officially turned in their deposit/letter of intent yet - myself included. I know for sure the 1/2 half of January interviewees have not been able to "officially" fill up the Class of 2006 spots b/c they haven't received the 3rd letter with all those paperwork yet.

I guess I'm saying this b/c my friend had to defer one year (last year) b/c he was waiting on UCLA and UCSF to get back to him (he got accepted elsewhere). They utlimately rejected him. I don't want people to make the same mistake.

Don't be so pessimistic. I think UCSF uses a ranked waitlist system, so you can still get accepted with your excellent stat.

when you say it is 60% full, does that mean they have accepted 60% of 80 people, or is that the percentage of accepted students who have sent in their deposits? and they're only interviewing till the beginning of march?? i thought they interview all the way until april! wow, very slim chances then.

When I was scheduled for an interview, Ana told me that there were a couple of days left. Feb 21, 24, 27, and Mar 2. However, they might open up more interview spots for the month of March.

She told me around Feb 1st that only 60% of the class was full also. It means that out of 80 seats, 60% of those seats are taken. There are also 300 interviewees for this cycle because UCSF got 1850 applicants over the 1590 from last year. Maybe after the January acceptances there will maybe be 25-20% of seats left open.

I feel confident about this interview despite how very late I am and I appreciate all the responses regarding this phone call. I will treat the interview with the seriousness it deserves despite that stuff about it being "just a formality" because I only get one shot at leaping over the rest of the applicant pool right?

Okay guys, wish me luck in eleven days! UCSF is my #1 choice.

Did you know that in January, the staff spent most of the month on vacation? I know for sure there were only mid-late January interviewees and only a few people got interviewed, as told to me by Ana.

What I didn't catch was how many they interview a day. Does anyone know how many they interview in a day?

they interview 16 ppl a day.

i believed dr. alexander said they raised the number of interviews from 300 to 325 this year because the increase in applicants. i wish they would increase the number of seats for their class.

Remember that a ton of students will put $ down at UCLA and UCSF and wait until last minute to make their decision. Don't be suprised if you see many seats open up during the summer. Last year they accepted approx 130 students to fill the 80 seats.

Good luck EyeAmCommi. I interviewed in the middle of January (January 11th), and the total number of people they interviewed that day was 15 (myself included). The interview is very relaxed; be yourself, and you'll be great. Though Kigglar says the class is full (by the way Kigglar, thanks for messaging me back about the paperwork!), I personally believe that there are still spots that are just waiting to be filled. However, the spots are slowly shrinking up as people get closer to making their decisions. When I interviewed, 23/80 spots had been filled. Based on SDN posts alone, I was accepted along with at least 4-5 people that post on these forums. Despite what everyone else tells you, treat the interview seriously, and maybe we'll see you in the fall!

Wow, I didn't figure UCSF would be that full already. I'm so jealous of everyone who has a seat. Don't worry, I'll take it seriously cause it is my first interview!

I'm so nervous...

Don't be nervous! SDN'ers say a lot stuff they "think" is right (I am in no way excluding myself!!) but getting an interview at UCSF isn't a formality to your acceptance, and that's a fact. The interview is a BIG part of the process. I know for a fact I was admitted based mostly (if not completely) on my interview.

Even Dr. Alexander told me when he called me that he hasn't seen remarks like that about an applicant in a long time.

Advice about your interview::

Realx! I know it's hard. I know you want to get in so bad that it hurts. I've been there, I know but you need to just relax, smile, and have fun. Joke around, laugh and have a great time!

Good luck and hope to see you this fall!!

Just got back from the interview. There are still slots for the incoming class and the upcoming adcomm meething is on Thrusday night. Good Luck

So there's still hope for me? Thank god.

I interviewed on jan. 9th, and we were told that 28 people had been accepted by then, so you definitely have a shot. I remember them saying that they 'titrate' the acceptances or something like that. There were 20 people interviewed that day. Also, I remember being told that acceptances are based 30% on grades, 30% on DAT's, 15% on the interview. Your stats are really good, so gluck on your interview, you definitely have a shot. Also, I'm sure you already know this, the interviews are closed file. Gluck.

Talk about nervous...I was interviewed WAY back on Oct. 27th, and it's been over three months and still no word from them...I was accepted to all the schools that interviewed BUT UCSF...and I don't feel that I did anything worse during the UCSF interview...
It is just SO frustrating and depressing, the only response I've ever gotten from them is that my file is "in the hands of the admission committee"...
I hope the rest of you have better luck than me...

I feel your pain. My interview at UCSF was on 10/20-the very first day they interviewed people for this year. I still haven't heard anything from them! I've spend many a day worrying also, and at this point I'm trying to be realistic and not get my hopes up or anything. I'm thankful that I do have an acceptance from Case, which I would be more than happy to attend (despite being in Cleveland).

I wonder why you haven't heard from UCSF... and with a greater sense of confusion, how did you manage to get rejected pre-interview by Penn with those stats?

I think they're just waiting to interview everyone before they make their final decisions. That way they have a large and talented pool before they make their selections. At least, I think that' what they're doing in your case cause you should definitely get accepted.

You'd choose UCSF over UCLA right? I know I would 😳

No idea...the reason Penn gave me was that there are just too many applicants this year.

Has anyone who interviewed at UCSF after Jan 27th heard back from them yet? Just wondering....

i interviewed on jan 27th and havent heard anything.
