I just got an interview invite from UCSF last night and I'm ecstatic!!! However, I'm very nervous at the same time because this is my first invite out of 10 schools that I sent out applications. Have anybody been in UCSF interview before and happy to share their experience? I know that there is a short essay that you need to write within 30 mins during the interview date....And I know that one faculty and one dental students will interview me...

I appreciate if you can share your tips and experience on the interview day. Also I'm researching on airport shuttle and apartments to stay for 2 nights (I'm from Connecticut)
Btw, my interview appointment is on Oct 22. Let me know if you have the same interview day with me!

Haven't heard back from UCSF, so I am totally jealous. However, I did some undergrad research at UCSF SoD when I was an undergrad at Cal.

I would find flights into either OAK or SFO. If you fly into Oakland (OAK) it's a relatively cheap BART (that's the train system) into San Francisco and you could easily look up how to ride the MUNI (buses) around the city. SFO isn't in San Francisco proper either so you would have to commute from the San Francisco airport to UCSF anyways, but I think the public transportation options are fewer. However, I think you will find nicer places to stay around SFO than you would OAK.

I could go from Berkeley to UCSF in about 30min door-to-door if I timed it all right.

Best of luck and congrats on the invite!

Thank you! I think I'll fly to SFO and stay at an apt (named Carl Hotel- as UCSF suggested in their housing website) near UCSF. Do you know how long it takes to travel from the airport to UCSF by public transpo?

Good luck on your app! Best of luck!

Congrats!

I would recommend staying as close to the school as possible. Parking costs $30/ day...ouch!

After a short wait in the lobby, about 20-30 of us were taken to a conference room. There were a couple of presentations about the school, the curriculum, etc. James Betbeze and Dean Featherstone spoke for a while. We were given a tour of the campus. Then around lunch time, a couple of students came in and we were given the opportunity to ask them about life as a dental student, how they liked the school, etc. During this time a faculty member will come in and call you for your interview. The questions are very straight-forward. Go here: http://studentdoctor.net/schools/school/ucsf/survey/26. Know all the the answers to those questions. My faculty interview was probably about 20 minutes. My student interview was about the same. After the interviews, they will have you write your essay. For my group, it was just a response to a philosophical quote.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for such a detailed walkthrough. I'm looking forward to this now!

Congrats on your interview! If you're flying into SFO, by public transportation, if you were to take a taxi, it'll probably take you 20min, depending on local traffic.

I'm from around the area and UCSF is my number one school as well! If you have any questions, let me know! Knock em' dead! Good luck! :luck:
