Hey guys!
I have gotten acceptances to both UCSF and NOVA and am now having a very hard time trying to decide between the two. Does anyone have some advice or insight? Anything would be appreciated!!
Thanks 😉

if you want to suffer for 4 years, go to UCSF. if you want to spend half the time looking for patients in local gangbang neighborhood so you can fulfill your requirement, go to UCSF. if you want to deal with psycho professors who are out to get you, go to UCSF. if you want stressed out classmates by your side who came to UCSF because of its reputation as one of the best med school (but not dental), go to UCSF. only reason i'd go to UCSF would be if i got accepted to NYU.

What are your reasons for disliking UCSF so much? Or are they just useless statements with nothing to back it up?

UCSF all the way. I am not biased, (if anything I am biased against ucsf), but in my opinion its not even a question.

UCSF has an awesome clinic and pumps out great clinicians (not sure what got into polarnut).

To me its not even a question. I was struggling over the UCLA vs. UCSF question, UCLA accepted me Dec. 1 and i just got invited to an interview at SF this week, so thats the only reason i'm going to la. UCSF is a great school, and its pass no pass now so there isn't any cut-throat mentality from what i have heard.

Polarnut needs to have his head checked. UCSF may have been cut thoat in the past but today it is a very laid back program. We are P/NP so there is very little stress. all the students in my class help one another. We share all are notes and post recorded lectures online. The Biomedical science instructors are top notch and well organized. Our preclinic is good but there is room for improvement. The instructors know that and respond to our suggestions. No need to hunt down "gang bangers" in the neighborhood b/c our clinics are full already and the neighborhood surrounding the school is great.

UCSF. No question. Frankly I think it's silly to even ask. I think the neighborhood is awesome. The only reason I didn't go there is I got into UCLA and I prefer so CA.

UCSF is def not the best school ever. I would reserve that right to many of the schools that go unmentioned here on SDN. UCSF is about as good as you the student make it.
Here on SDN we are all so concerned with which is the best school...let me tell you its not UCSF, UCLA, Harvard, Penn, Columbia, UCONN, UOP etc. etc. I would venture out and say many of the sleeper schools will provide you with just as good if not a better education. Institutional reputation does not make a great dental school because at a place like UCSF, UCLA, Columbia, Harvard, etc. you have other programs tied to that name and reputation.
I am glad to see you did get your head checked but you might want to check it again because UCSF is not the best school out there. It was the best school for me at the time of decision but if $ and my possible desire to specialize (no grades so nice) was not a factor I may have gone elsewhere.

What? No NSU-CDM fans? Alright I'll step in....

If you want year round sun-tan, then come to NSUCDM
If you want friendly classmates, then come to NSUCDM
If you want "hot" classmates, then come to NSUCDM
If you want a social dental school, then come to NSUCDM
If you want to feed wild animal life during lunch, then come to NSUCDM
If you want to learn Spanish, then come to NSUCDM
If you want to work out in a state-of-the-art student gym, then NSUCDM is for you
If hanging out with celebraties is your thing, then NSUCDM is your place
If you don't mind showing off your skin or seeing skin, then NSUCDM is the place to be

We only want good looking and social students here. If you're ugly and introverted, need not to apply! I'm the exception of course!

If you are choosing your dental school for all the wrong reasons, then go to NSUCDM

its just so hard of a decision to make. I feel like NOVA has the better facilities and technology. And UCSF has the better clinical experience and community service. I just can't decide which is more important.

in my opinion, facilities and technology are just a way for you to transition into working with REAL patients and for you to learn the most up-to-date methods of treating patients. i would go to the school with better clinical experience and community service, since SF still has great facilities and will prep you in that regard as well. Besides, I believe that if you even have the slightest chance of specializing reputation of a school does matter and SF definitely has a better rep than NOVA.

UCSF....why??

Cuz the PDizzle will be there!!!!!!!!!!

What else do you need to know???

I had the same kind of problem with choosing between Case and Nova. I decided that I will be more happy at Nova because its just where I want to be. Don't make it too hard on yourself. Go where you'll be happy. All of that other "school" stuff will take care of itself. The opportunities are available everywhere you just need to take advantage of them. Remember, they're all accredited so you will be a dentist no matter what.

if you take away location. After being at both schools, it is very clear to me that UCSF is a much better professional move. The "you'll still be a dentist no matter where you go" is a very bad argument....schools are very different.

Thanks for the advice.... im still so torn though...
