sorry but just 1 more question about programs for ROL entry... 😳

Is there any resident from UCSF who can help & comment on your program? 🙂
Specifically, how is your surgical path training? How do residents who are non-MDPhDs do in your program? Just got a sense that UCSF is very research-oriented... Do residents find good job opportunities after they finish (private practice)?

Also, I am very interested in dermpath. How do UCSF residents do in finding DP fellowships after residency in-house vs elseewhere? Does it help with Leboit there?

You can PM me too!!

I would also be interested in the answers to these questions, whether it's a public response or via PM.

I am also interested in GI, and I know the GI faculty are strong there.

In any case, I would like a general review because in reality, I might end up doing anything, and it seems like UCSF offers great research and diagnostic opportunity in a number of areas. Also, I thought my interviewers were great and I loved the residents I met. And it's a toss-up between this and a couple of other programs in the NE for my top 3.

Ucsf is strong in everything and you get to live in Americas most premie urban city outside ny and la. And frankly no program in la or ny can touch ucsf so you are essentially getting the beat training in the best urban city. It's a win win to match there no matter what your goals are. Muff said, even though sf can't touch Hawaii when it comes to climate.

Wondering if anyone's heard from UCSF this year. Anyone? I know, I know, I should rank it at top regardless of contact, but.... just curious😀.

really attracted to SF and thought I did well during interviews, but heard nothing from them...

I heard from them. Phone calls.

Rank the places in the order you want to go to them, not based on how you think they like you.

Thanks for posting. For some reason, I missed this response😕.

Have to agree with you about SF (the city). Was seriously debating between Stanford vs UCSF but found myself attracted to San Francisco more (like way more). I myself can't imagine doing a residency in Hawaii, though. UCSF does seem strong in many areas (dermpath, neuropath, hemepath, GI), but apparently very popular this year.

No problem. Good Luck. For people that want a great program in a world class urban city and that realize you get what you pay for in living expenses, it is the best choice.

Why do you keep saying "urban city?" It's redundant. And the only thing SF has on America's other "urban cities" is more bums and hippie throwbacks.

it's not redundant. There are lots of cities that are not urban.

Please SF is world class alpha city ala NY or Paris. Amazing restaurants and neighborhoods, plus unsurpassed beauty with the Bay, Mt Tam, Napa, Central Coast.

The only other US cities with programs on par would be Boston and Baltimore and those are cities with miserable climates and lack of diversity. All else being equal no one would choose Boston or Baltimore over SF except for someone from that region or forced to due to love/marriage.

I agree. Everyone please rank UCSF first, then JHU - I will "take one for the team" and try for MGH.

Going to mgh for four or five years is fine. Just don't get stuck in new England.

Finally we're getting into useful discussions on this board, like good English and good cities.
Yes, it is redundant. By definition, all cities are urban.

Main Entry: ur·ban
Pronunciation: \ˈər-bən\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin urbanus, from urbs city
Date: 1619
: of, relating to, characteristic of, or constituting a city

The bay, Mt Tamalpais, central coast, etc. equally belong to Palo Alto which you disparaged as a suburban nightmare. The arts, music, and restaurants are far better in Chicago, NYC, Boston, even Philadelphia, and there is less human fecal material in the streets in all of those cities than in SF. I'm from the bay area and I chose the east coast.

FWIW, Chicago has its share of urine on public transportation, but no fecal material that I've seen.

I still would not call all cities "urban." Palo Alto is a city and I do not think most people consider it to be urban. maybe your dictionary says it is equivalent to the word city but I think urban implies a characteristic more specific to larger cities.

but by all means, continue this ridiculous argument...
