UCSF rejection
Started by dudeitsme
Hi guys. I wouldn't think too much of it. They probably just started reviewing apps, and they haven't gotten around to updating everyone's AADSAS regardless of if you are in the review pile or not.
I've just come to the sad realization that most of us who are out-of-state and barely meet or barely surpass UCSF's average should expect rejections.
Not only does UCSF give preference to CA residents over out-of-staters and expect those OOS applicants to have "superior credentials," UCSF admits mostly those OOS applicants from WICHE states (AK, WA, OR, CA, ID, NV, MT, UT, AZ, WY, CO, NM, ND, SD, and HI). It seemed misleading to me as someone from the East Coast to think that UCSF was a true OOS friendly school when I was choosing which out-of-state and research-intensive schools to apply to.
"Although the School of Dentistry believes its primary responsibility is to educate California residents, nonresidents with superior credentials are encouraged to apply. Non-California residents must present college-level grade-point averages of at least 3.0, both overall, and in science, to be eligible for admission into the University of California. If they are from Western states with no dental schools, they should also apply for financial support from WICHE."

so you didnt research the school thoroughly before applying..and you're sad now? ok
im in-state applicant ya'lll
Yeah, I got rejected by email as well. I have a high GPA. 23AA 25PAT 21RC. OOS applicant.
I did the supplemental in a few days time (maybe I took too long? hah) I thought the whole credit entering thing was lame, confusing and redundant. And they said something about certain credits not counting. I don't know. I did put a little joke in one of my essays saying that if I didn't get in this round, my wife was going to make us hike the Appalachian trail (6 month trip...). Maybe that set them off? Or maybe they just didn't like my entire application. Who knows. Oh, I did only have a little over 50 shadowing hours at time of submission too.
In the end, I'm glad they reject me now than later. At least I don't have to get a ticket to interview at a school that doesn't want me. Keep your head up. Its still very early in the season. Loads of people who interview and are accepted don't attend, so you might have a late interview somewhere and hop on that acceptance list.
I don't think that is the case, because I submitted my supplemental with only 10 hours left on the timer and I haven't received a rejection yet... Knock on wood.
Ok so i found everybody on SDN who was rejected and calculated their averages:
AA: 23.17
TS: 22.6
PAT: 23.3
oGPA: 3.66
sGPA: 3.64
Most were residents in California.
crazy...
😱
Sorry OP, do you have back up schools? Best of luck! 👍

Whew, i guess I dodged this high statistical rejection. Jk, I'm just at the bottom of the rejection stack of apps.

Im from texas and didnt really except UCSF or UCLA to even look at my app. i really dont know why they pick me... but very excited to be picked by one of the top schools
maybe the UCSF is playing the mind games determining where the applicants w/ high stats are going. stats that are high would go somewhere else instead of UCSF

if you are a texas resident, i would not go to UCSF. UCSF is experiencing severe budget problems and the UC Board of Regents just approved a 10% hike in fees each year for the next 4 years. Meaning that fess go up 10% in 2013, and additional 10% in 2014, etc.
Texas schools are over $100,000 cheaper than UCSF if you are instate at texas. SF also has a high cost of living
Hi all
Someone please reply.
I am in 9th batch and have not yet received a request for supplementary fee and documents. Is that normal? How long did it take for you guys to receive the supplement request email?
Thanks
Some people got the supp a few weeks after their app was received..my supp took a long time to come, submitted on 7/6 and received the supp on 9/5, so 2 months ..

Lol. It's okay. You have plenty of other schools to look forward to....I am pretty sure I will get rejection soon. I am "out of Western Hemisphere" applicant. Only people from Mars is more out state than me.
Your money is best spent on the rest of your interviewssss lol.at least we don't have to pay for flight and hotel anymore 😛
I think everyone rejected from UCSF needs a hug.
My application is cancelled because I didn't have the international transcript and they didn't accept the credential evaluation from the service I used and the one that I sent to AADSAS. They only accept from two credential evaluators - WES and forgot what the other one was. I am disappointed because usually if you are accepted then you have to send in all the transcripts why before interview?
Anyways, the school I attended outside the US doesn't even know what transcript means 🙂
