Maybe MSTP/OOS is the reason for the delay. I was verified on Monday and received the exact same email about 5 minutes ago. I'm MD/IS.

Good luck, everyone! I sure hope I get a secondary... :luck:

I would appreciate it if more instaters would share their verification date and date of secondary receipt!

It must be batches. Or the fact that I called them this morning, and I got my e-mail like 20 minutes afterwards

One of my top choices... hopefully they show me some love.

MD/ OOS (AMCAS verified 7/31) and i got the same email today. im guessing this means it really is a batches game. no OOS ppl had heard anything till today right? (no OOS ppl have the secondary yet?) good luck OOS ppl, i guess we'll just have to continue our california dreaming...

Yeah, this is the first I'm hearing of OOS people hearing anything... I was verified 8/2 and received the "Application received" e-mail today also. (MD/OOS)

MSTP/OOS. AMCAS verified 7/10. Email 7/17 stating AMCAS info was received.

If you wish to update or expand upon your activities, you may submit a supplemental list (maximum two pages) to be returned with the documents listed above.

Is there anyone expanding their list of activities?

I'm OOS, received the secondary e-mail today. I was in the first batch to be verified (got that application receipt e-mail a long time ago). Maybe OOS people are just on a slightly different timeline.

When was your AMCAS verified/when did you get the receipt email?

I haven't gotten the secondary yet - I just got the email saying they received my AMCAS - but if I do get a secondary, I think it should be in 2 or 3 weeks. By that time, my senior year will not have started yet... but during my senior year, I'm going to have 2 teaching jobs and 1 dorm staff job. I think it doesn't make sense to include these with the secondary, but I might send an update letter about 1 month into the school year with this information.

Or, does anyone think I should add these activities on the secondary (even if it's before I start them)?

Ha, and watch me not even get a secondary. 🙁

Unless they changed it drasitically from last year, I don't think you have to incule anything with the secondary except your signature and a check.

Right, but I'm referring the option to update them on your activities (not in essay format, just give a list if necessary).

For everyone trying to figure out the magic secondary formula. I know people on the ADCOM committee at UCSF and I know for a fact that the screen is NOT entirely number's based. They use a point scale (I think it's out if 24 points). You get a 0,1,2 on your essay. Most people get a 1. I have friends with perfectly good stats that never received a secondary from UCSF, and I also have friends with average stats that got accepted. I dated a 3rd year at UCSF with a 31, 3.8 (o.k. better than average, but not crazy great...o.k. he also was a Fullbright Scholar and raised like $300,000 for a Muslim medical clinic, which I am sure helped). UCSF is known for looking at the whole applicant, which is why I think they are such a great school. They could have all the 40+ 4.0 students they wanted, but they still take a range, because they want interesting people.

And alas, still no UCSF secondary for me...but I did get one from UCSD yesterday! Total shocker figuring my MCAT is sub 30 (strong GPA though, and lots of good ECs).

I think you should just stick to things you've done. Such as spring quarter grades or summer activities. You can bring up things you plan on doing, but it may be a bit presumptuous. You're only sending an "update". It's really up to you though. Although I plan on doing a lot of more things the upcoming year, I only mentioned my grades for the update.

Insteresting. I got a secondary invite from UCSF but not UCSD.

Think it's worthwhile to call or e-mail to check on the status? My amcas was verified mid-june, and I received the application received email on 7/18. My stats aren't stellar, but i hope to at least receive a secondary... bah!

Argh... I think I got screened out. Although it did take me a few weeks longer than expected to get the UCSD secondary.

C'mon UCSF.... I'm an EMPLOYEE. You're paying for my health plan! At least let me give you guys 100 bucks. 😀

lol @ your "my stats aren't stellar" line. You've been hanging around SDN too long. I don't think calling had any impact, since my e-mail was in the "batch" with the rest of them.

If you want though, go for it. The lady there was suuuuper nice and helpful.

I agree. Thanks for the input.

Hah, your stats are like mine... except I'm not from California 😎
Oh well, a girl can dream, can't she? 🙂

ha, thanks. i think i will if i get the chance. and yeah, i think i have been hanging around sdn too long. these boards are so addictive and make me nervous and jittery at the same time. like coffee!

They received my AMCAS 8/7, and 2 weeks later, no secondary yet. Any news from the rest of you?

I don't think they've sent out a second batch of secondaries since the initial one, at least AFAIK. That one and Mayo are the only two I'm waiting for.

Who has not gotten UCSF? When were you verified? Also, what is your mcat/gpa if you choose to say?

Makes me feel better (38, 3.8, instate, no secondary), but I really wonder why they didn't send us ones before those who sent it in later. Isn't it done in order of received?

No, its screened, and it's a qualitative screen, and they do it in batches. I'm not really worried about it, I'm sure we'll both get the secondary in time.

Not to sound arrogant, but I don't see how they could screen me out based on things besides gpa and mcat. My essay was good, not weird or very risky, and my activities are pretty good and normal.

"Normal" is a bad thing for applications. Med schools want to see "abnormal," although I'm talking about the good kind of "abnormal."

Well as we have discussed, it could be factors such as URM or Non-trad. Also, I think it's more about the quality of your activities. What's good and normal?

I wouldn't worry about it, like I said. If you haven't gotten it by October/November, worry then.

I mean they are solid and high quality, and not something controversial that might get you kicked out from the outset. My URM status is "white", and i am a traditional instate applicant.

If it really is a substantive screen, then it's good to have great numbers and solid ECs, but that may not be the deciding factor. Some schools really value intangibles (which could be diversity (educational or ethnic), amazing research/clinical experiences, demonstrated dedication to underserved areas, etc.), and may only extend a limited number of screened secondaries to those applicants that they think really stand out from the pack. It's not just about numbers. But don't take my word for it with respect to UCSF. I don't know exactly what makes them tick. But that was my impression since they send out so "few" secondaries. Good luck.

IS/3.88/32M amcas verified aug 9th, secondary received aug 16th. I'm non-trad with 5 years in the army. no research and 250hrs volunteer in outpatient physical therapy. I guess ucsf likes non-trads🙂

Congratulations! Yes, I have heard SF likes non-trads.

I was verified after you 🙁 I'm starting to worry a little... but SF is not my first choice, so I guess it's okay if I don't get a secondary. At any rate, there's still time...

So how many OOS people received secondaries?

I'm OOS, 41Q/3.96 stats, but I'm pretty well rounded (I'm a ballet dancer, have studied abroad a lot, teach, volunteer, do research) and UCSF is my first choice.

They received my AMCAS 7/10 and I got the first batch of secondaries from UCSD and UCLA. My fam lives in HI, so I'd be happy to go any where in CA, but UCSF would be awesome.

Good luck everyone!

Finally got UCSF secondary today
In-state; 29 MCAT (w/ a 7 in verbal)
GPA: BCPM: 3.95 Overall: 3.89
Verified July 5
Hope I gave someone out there hope 🙂
