Hi, is anyone planning on living at UCSF student housing? Particularly, TURK BOULEVARD?

If so, have you visited the place and seen the single and double/shared units? My boyfriend was able to get the double room, meaning he'll have to share with a roomate.

Is University Housing nice and convenient enough for it to be worth sharing a room? Should he consider looking elsewhere to find a his own room?

Anybody have any comments about comparing the 2 housing options (single room for 650 vs. double/shared for 571...)?

If you have anything to share, please do! Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks...

I have never seen the housing, but CLEARLY $80 extra a month would be more than worth it for your own room!

From the UCSF housing website, I believe that getting a single is a matter of seniority (within the housing system). So M1s usually can't get them, but most M2s can if they lived in a double their first year. From what I've heard, university housing is like most the housing in the city. You pay a lot for not a lot of space and difficult parking. But is a little cheaper than many of the room rentals in the area. If he is willing to live with a roommate, I say do it, and the next year he can either move to a single, or have lived in San Francisco long enough to know what to look for in the private sector. Unless he likes to do all his studying at home, he may not spend a whole lot of time there anyway, so sharing may work out fine. However, to answer your question, I haven't actually been in the Turk Blvd apts.

thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the input Paean. You had a lot of good input about getting a feel for the area first, and eventually being able to move to a single in university housing... i'll pass on the info...
