So, I have been placed on the alternate list for the University of Florida. Does this mean I have an OK shot at getting in, or am I doomed? I searched everywhere for this info, and have yet to find the probability of being accepted. I am Out of State, GPA is 3.95, and my DAT is 21/22/23. Any opinions or information would be greatly appreciated.

UF only accepts about 9-11 OOS students per year. I'm sure that they have extended these offers, but should others choose not to attend, I think you have a chance. It's never great odds in a situation like this, but I think your stats give you a fighting chance.

Yea, as Predoctalk stated, they only take about 10 out of state'ers per year. I heard those exact numbers when I interviewed there. You have high stats, but I wouldn't bank on it, only because of the in state/out of state issue.
Anything is possible though, because my tourguide was an out of state applicant..go figure.

Thanks, I know that OOS is especially tough there, but it is unfortunate that I did not get accepted. I really wanted to go there, but I did get into some schools. Also, I have an interview at UCLA, but I am worried about spending another 500-600 bucks on traveling just to be put on the waiting list, as their OOS is tough too.

Honestly, I just saw your predents, and I think if you want to go to school in florida, you should forget UF and go to Nova.
My reasoning is, you got into Nova. Nova will be the same $ as UF for an OOS'er anyway. Plus south fla is nicer than north fla anyway 🙂

Good advice. Funny thing is I have turned down all my acceptances except Nova. I like the school a lot and the location can't be beat. Plus, I am big on "new" schools like Nova. Just how everything is so nice. I have an interview at UCLA, and I know it is a great school, but I am pretty sure I may turn it down. We will see.
Does anybody know the chances of gaining OOS in Florida? I know they just passed a bill that made it more difficult, but I am just wondering the steps I need to take to gain in state. Such as license, vote, housing, etc.?
I totally agree. UF is not that great. I'm in state, but I turned them down to go out of state. No freaking windows in that place.
Is someone else paying for your tuition or are you insane?

OMG!! I Totally AGREE!! 👍 I cannot believe how seriously depressing that place is with no windows/ no natural light inside...
They need to realize how much of a turn-off that is. I mean im supposed to be struggling my 1st couple years in classes like 8-5 & never see the light of day? I can see how this could add to the mental toll dental school takes on ur life. I personally need to be outdoors or at the very least SEE the outdoors from time to time. As crazy as it seems THAT is one of the biggest factors I notice at other schools I've interviewed at since.

I agree with you; that being said, you will love your Maryland interview... exact opposite of UF...
Also I think I shared a cab with you on the way from the hotel to UNC? If not sorry, hahaha.

Well - I am SUPER excited about Maryland - it is one of my top choices w/o even going there yet...So I can' wait! Hope I still have a good chance.

It was always one of my top choices...so Of course Im still considering it. I HOPE that I get the opportunity to actually choose the school & not have the school choose me...BUT only time will tell. AND if so - it's not gonna be an easy decision b/c of course - "windows" is not all I am considering! lol Im not that crazy...it was just a comment.
