Hey does anyone know anything about this program and what's their take on it? I notice alot of people here have it on their decline/canceled interview list and was just wondering why? Anyone plan on even ranking them?

One of the reasons people are cancelling is because they are new. While it is true that Gtown is new as well it comes sort of from an old program where it is my understanding they have had residents rolling through their ED for a long time.

Lastly, I am a Floridian and GVille isnt exactly a sprawling metropolis where people from all over the US are hoping to live. The real Q is why isnt there an EM program in Miami? I dont get it. I know they are working on it but it doesnt make much sense.

Hmm, I didn't even know UF has an EM program and I go here! I can tell you that the character of the ER has changed greatly since the Level 1 trauma designation. It's a whole lot busier. Before this, the area probably couldn't adequately train EM residents.

I like the Gainesville area, but it won't suit someone looking for a big city. The town wholely revolves around the university. It's very friendly for those into the outdoors. Nightlife is decent. It used to bug me that I felt old with all of these (hot) undergrads here, but I've learned how to find my crowd. Just have to be willing to pay more for drinks.

After 8 years here, I don't regret that I'll be leaving soon to do residency. However, I'll look back on my times here fondly.

I interviewed there. Liked it and plan on ranking it. Let me clear up a little bit of your misimpression Ectopic as you kinda have it backwards. Gtown was affiliated with GW quite a while back but has not had any EM residents rotating in it's (or WHC's) ED for several years, just other services residents in both (i.e. IM, surg, peds, etc. residents) a decent chunk of the faculty are however from GW in the past so they do have EM residency experience there.
Gainesville has been a sattelite site for Jacksonville residents for a while and will continue to be for this years current interns and 2nd years. Thus the new class will share some time with jacksonville residents for the first 2 years (also why they are taking six for the first two years though they are approved for 8) . Like Gtown the faculty at Gainesville mostly all have history with Jacksonville program.
One thing I will also add is I have heard that they (Gainesville) have identified a few applicants allready with some post grad training that they want and may be offering as many as 4 of their 6 spots up for prematch offers. This however is not fact yet as I heard it from another interviewee who said the PD told him that. So take it only as a rumor. If so that would leave as few as 2 spots in the match for them which would blow for anyone who really liked it there.
And I agree with Gvile not being a sprawling metropolis. It is the quintessential college town. Big when school is in session. Dead when not. Hope that helps. PM if you have any other questions and I will see if I know the answer.

I actually spoke to someone about this.. They have the Knight Ridder (I think is the name) trauma center, and from people I know that rotated there said it was awesome. In addition, they were approved for one a while back but couldnt fund it. They are trying to start it back up again. Additinoally, there is a DO EM program at Mt Sinai on Miami Beach..

Regarding Miami, I believe they also had problems with the surgery department that got in the way.
