Anyone had a University of FLorida interview this cycle yet? (2005). I've read good and negative comments on the feedback section---how do I know what to believe? I've heard they only care about your scores and gpa, and that the interview is just because they are "required" to iview so many pple. I'm starting to get freaked---should I be?

Well you are correct.

UF is just a numbers school. If you don't have a 3.4+ and an 18+ your chances are slim to none unless you know some people. On top of that, if you are not a UF undergrad...well good luck. My friend that went to UF said over 50% of his dental class was UF undergrad

No personality needed for UF...just good numbers. I was shocked when they accepted me because I just made the cut numbers wise. They kept drilling me about my DAT and how in two of my sections I only scored an 18 (my lowest score)

Ok, my follow up question is--my gpa is 3.6 but my DAT's are AA19, PAT15!, QR15!, RC20,Bio20, GC20, OC21---why would they invite me for an interview if my DAT scores aren't ALL up to par? Is this some kind of joke?

and btw, how is Nova Southeastern as far as a #'s school? Should I bring my A personality or my A gpa???

You are fine with UF...just in case be prepared mentally for that PAT 15. And take this advice: DO NOT make excuses for the 15 PAT.

Hmmm...they will probably give you crap about the 15 QR too. Like I said, don't make excuses or they will eat you alive and spit you out. Say how you will work to correct those issues... I really can't think of anything good.

Nova, well when I was applying looked for a person and not a figure. But things change so I'm not sure if thats the case anymore. You are better off asking current students

that's what ive heard too---ive only applied to UF and NSU, w/ UF being my first choice. Perhaps I should have applied to more---thanks so much for your advice. You've given me a glimmer of hope! AFter reading those feedbacks ive had a really bad feeling today. I guess I can only do my best, and hopefully that'll be good enough. Thanks!

I am the D-2 here at NSU as well as my class VP. I also only applied to NSU and UF as well.

The admissions director will pick you apart up in Gainesville. They tend to weigh heavily your DAT/GPA and really focus on the numbers. The interview was not an enjoyable experience for me, and many of other students in our class has a "S___etti" story. One student told me he went up there and the director basically said "you really don't have a very good chance of acceptance here," the student promply repsonded, "so why the [heck] did you invite me?" He was asked to leave. Other students I have spoken to said the interview was enjoyable and a pleasure to attend. It all depends on how good your numbers are.

UF has a good reputation and an oustanding science faculty. If you want a state school with a lower tuitition, then it may be the place to go to.

NSU's interview, on the other hand, focused on the type of student that I would be. Meaning, while gpa and dat were important, they also wanted to know what I did for fun, my school experiences, and questions like "if you could be any car, what would it be and why?" The interview committee wanted to see how I acted on my feet and if I could respond well. They also wanted to know if I was well-rounded and would have a life outside of dental school.

Then again, all arguments aside, who would want to live in Gainesville rather than Ft. Lauderdale?

I like that NSU cares about WHO you are. It's more important to me to be a practitioner who has a LIFE and can RELATE to their patients instead of a brain/egghead who can solve a quadratic route in their head, but can't talk college football with you. I chose UF b/c of location and price, but from what I'm hearing about their "standards," I'm very turned off. At the moment, getting in means more to me than price, so I'm willing to sacrifice that. Who knows. I'm still waiting on an iview from NSU. USPS lost the contents of my mail from NSU, so i got an empty envelope (which looked like a secondary app) from them. How's that for lucK!?
