UF Mails out letters from the 4/18 interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for clearing up the confusion. I wish I knew about the picture sooner; I ended up going to Office Depot for the pic. On the intern app, I also thought you have to send it to UF, then I read through the forms and saw, "mail to State of Florida Board of Pharmacy...". That was confusing!

I went to my doctor today, and he gave me the official form with the Florida seal...So that's cleared up as well. Now I just have to make copies of everything before sending them in.

Thanks again.

Just wondering if anyone is going to buy the health insurance from UF/United? They didn't have a quote. I'm currently under my dad's insurance, which expires this month. I didn't realize how expensive it is. I just looked up some insurance plans. Jeez, they are expensive and confusing.

They're actually changing to Aetna for this coming year. Insurance is so expensive but I bought it last year and I'll buy it this year. Because I thought of it this way, if I get injured or sick the deductible is really low (Or nothing if you go to the Gville campus) versus private plans which are the same monthly cost with a really high deductible. I just wish we could actually pay for the insurance monthly instead of annually or every semester. You can see the plan at aetnastudenthealth.com

ageldred, how much did you pay last year? Prices: deductible, copay, & monthly? Were you able to pay for it with student loans? Thanks for the feedback. Any information is much appreciated 🙂

I am having trouble with the chicken pox thing. None of my medical records seem to still be around. Guess I will have to fork over the $65 for the titer even though I know I had the disease! I remember itching like mad!!! 😡

I tried signing up for Aetna but they seem to only offer 2008-2009 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN. Is this the right plan? It seems rather pricey at $1,128 annually or $448 per semester. I remember school health insurance being much cheaper...

I also called them a few weeks ago and they said the 2008-2009 plans wouldn't be available until June. Kind of confused...

I feel your pain. I had to do the varicella titer, the tb skin test, and the tetanus (tdap/dtap) vaccination at the UF infirmary. I was pretty shocked when the bill came...it cost me a ridiculous amount of money!

To Pharmrose: I am in same situation with you because my insurance will expire this July....So I dont know it is still eligible for UF, so I decided to buy a new one from UF. When I called in, they give me the website. I did buy the insurance already, and their plan is to reduce 80% of everything...we only need to pay 20%, I am not sure about deductible but I know aetna is a very good insurance....so 1128$ is not too bad for me since I am an international student...My friends study in UF said that they actually changed the insurance plan for next year...and I think for resident, the plans wont be up until June ...So I bought it online, but did not receive the package yet...

To UFpharmD: I understand how much it would cost...ridiculus money huh.....I had to take my chest X-ray also because I have positive PPD test before, so they need a test X-ray in period of 6 months ....

I don't have insurance either. Please keep us updated anybody who finds out more information. I was thinking of getting one independently, there is a website that has it for $100 a month. Sorry I can't think of the name of the website. Does anybody know if insurance by August is acceptable or do we need it by the July 1rst deadline?

has anyone received anything from financial aid yet?

That's strange, I was able to view the Aetna plans. Here's the link

http://www.aetnastudenthealth.com/schools/ufl/brochure0809.pdf

The domestic rates are higher than the international rates. However if you break things down by a monthly cost, for what you get I think it's a decent plan. JMHO

Financial aid wont come out till June or July 🙁 Us returning students dont have our packages set up either. grr

off topic at this point, but for those of you that emailed Penny and didn't get a response...I was in the same boat, and she just mailed me back today.

I did receive email from Penny yesterday...

For the UF group Aetna plan, it looks like Plan 1 ($663) is not an option outside of Gainesville because all the SHCC clinic are located there. Yes??

Even if that's true, $1681 for Plan 2 is not bad at all for people over 25 [i'm like way over] - extending my job's UHC plan would cost much, much more.

do you happen to have the phone number for the uf infirmary, and is it the one on archer rd? Also do you recall how much you had to pay for the varicella antibody titer?

thanks in advance!

The UF Infirmary is located on campus. Their number is 407-392-1161. I don't really remember how much I had to pay for varicella but I think it was around $70. You should call them though to make sure.

Area code is 352 lol

What is JMHO and LMFAO? I did puzzles like this in Reach in the 4th grade but I'm not figuring out what those two stand for.

Has anyone had to get the varicella vaccinations? Unfortunately for me by Titer just came back negative and i have to get the vaccinations. I was told that there are a series of two shots given 28 days apart can anyone confirm this? any ideas as to how i can get these done for the july 1st deadline? your input would be greatly appreciated!

Did you have Chicken Pox? I did but I am having trouble proving it. I hope if I get the titer it will be positive!

It was my understanding that I also had chicken pox when I was younger, as is confirmed by my parents. However the negative titer results prove otherwise. In any case, I hope all works out with that Varicella-Form! btw, have you completed all of the other obligations outlined on the acceptance letter?

I don't know much about the disease but I was 4 when I had it so I wonder if the antibodies concentration can decrease with time. Guess I will be doing the titer also! I still need the CPR class (but taking it on Saturday). Then last but not least I have to come up with some health insurance. The rest I already mailed and hope that it got there.

I am done with everything except that 2nd varicella vaccine which cannot be administered until after July. To be honest I wasn't expecting the titer to come back negative. In any case, I hope this will suffice until I send them the documentation of the second vaccine. BTW, good luck with that CPR course!

You will be fine with just showing your schedule of the vaccination. I was at the Q&A session in Orlando and they said they help everybody to get the requirements complete. It isn't like July 1st and they delete all the students that don't have everything. Thanks also, I can't wait to be in the class while my friends are tubing in Wekiva springs. Oh well, it is worth the sacrifice.
