I wish this was my dilemma, but it is not. A good friend of mine has been accepted into both, and is having a hard time deciding. Any opinions out there regarding curriculum, rotations, residency placement, etc.? Where would you go if you had the choice and why? 😕

Foxy,
You telling him to go to USF so that he might open up a spot at UF?

10--who is your friend, this is not someone i happen to know is it?...and he is not in a dilemma...he is in at 2 awesome schools!

BIOTN: yes!

I would choose UF in this situation, but I have never visited USF so I dunno. Where is your friend from? Maybe relocating is an issue.

Go to USF. Tampa's awesome! You can go to Busch Gardens and Diasney world all the time! UF sucks.

Down with UF!

Personally, Tampa is a hell of a lot better than G'ville, but UF is a better school than USF. Cost is about the same, so money shouldn't be an issue. It comes down to personal preference and what one holds in the highest regard (whether it be reputation, location, student body) I can tell you right now that UF is going to have a lot of gunners in their class next year. If that kind of hypercompetitive environment makes your friend uncomfortable, than maybe USF is a better pick for him. He can't really go wrong either way though.

I've interviewed at both schools. Students at both seemed happy. I think student facilities at USF are better than those at UF. The lounge at USF is much better than the one at UF. The classrooms at USF are better, in my opinion. The hospital and instructors at UF are probably better than those at USF, but I don't know if this outweighs the positives at USF. What good is a highly praised (by collegues) prof who doesn't give you the time of day? Tampa is much better.

You can't go wrong with either school. UF is overrated and USF is underrated. I think they are about equal. You will probably enjoy your time more at USF, but you may get a slightly better education at UF (if they can overcome this USMLE prob of theirs).

DOWN WITH UF!!! 🙂

I knew exactly who would respond to this thread, and I thank you all. Actually, my friend is a girl (a very "foxy" one too!).

Coming from UF myself, my first reaction to her situation was to leave Gainesville. Don't get me wrong, I loved it there and everything, it's just that I couldn't imagine myself there for 4 more years. But it also seems to me (in my opinion) that UF has a better reputation, for whatever thats worth.

Thanks again, and good luck to you all.
