Hello everyone! I am new to SDN, however I have been reading through old threads about both UT Austin and UF yet still can not make up my mind as to which school I would like to attend for my undergrad. I currently live in Florida and have visited UF's campus already. From the visit, I wouldn't mind attending there, but I do prefer the big city aspect that Austin has to offer. But I am uncertain if UT Austin is as good of a school as UF. I am premed and will be looking into finishing my undergrad studying either biochem or molecular biology. Thank you for all your inputs!

First off welcome to SDN. (These threads are so ridiculous in my opinion)

Second, Go to UF. The fact that you are uncertain if UT is as good as a school as UF shows your ignorance and lack of passion for the institution and Id rather not have you as a future fellow alum.

Third, why you post this is pre-allo makes no sense to me since it has nothing pre-med related. Go post this in hSDN.

As an Aggie I say go to UF. Ain't nothing important in Austin.

I'd say UT:Austin is the better school in a better location. But not by enough to justify a big tuition difference - if you're from Florida I'd assume that your COA is less there?

I'll use simpler words, then. OP, I'm not sure of the quality of UF, but UT is a great school and Austin hands down is a more fun city than Gainesville. However, if you're a FL resident, you need to weigh the COA OOS at UT vs. in-state at UF. If it comes down to quality, you shouldn't worry about UT.

Don't pay too much attention to school rank and all of that stuff because once you are in college, it won't matter at all. UF is a great school, and Gainesville is a good city. I am certain that you will enjoy it there and have an amazing education while at it. I am currently a junior at UF, and I can attest the the "pre-med experience" here has been amazing. The teachers are great, the advisors are great, and the students are great. There is no cut-throat atmosphere at all. I am glad I came here, and I do not feel that going to UF will hurt my chances when I apply to school since my education, GPA, and all of that stuff is great. Don't waste your money with out of state tuition. Use bright futures while you still have it, and come get the best cheapest public education in the nation.

as an ex-longhorn, I say go to UT. Everything important is in Austin.

But bias aside, is cost important to you? If so, then stay in Florida. As others have said, it won't really matter in the long-run for medical school. If you want a great college experience, though, UT is the place. I absolutely miss my days there, and the city is probably my favorite one so far. I can't complain about the pre-med stuff there. I don't know how it compares to UF, though
