Its because the St. Petersburg campus sucks.

The news release meant to say:

"We got greedy and expanded greatly during the last 10 years. Now our new graduates have 250 k in student loans and they can't find a job. Even jobs on Indian reservations and in rural Kentucky are long gone! We have dropped our GPA standards to just 2.7 but even these subpar students are avoiding this profession. Therefore we have no choice but to reduce our class size".

Unfortunately this won't change anything in the short term. We are going to have four more long years of painful unemployment.

They are having trouble filling their class with qualified students.

I can fill a stadium of students if I just take anyone who applied.

Read the first line in the news release.

Don't people have common sense anymore? Why would a school cut their class size when their students are fully employed?

BTW, this is nothing new. Applicants to pharmacy schools have been dropping. Search for articles.

They are reducing the class size because unlike your friend, other people don't think a PharmD in this saturated market is worth 250 k in student loan debt.

I just think it is funny that you here so much about how the evil greedy schools has cause the over-saturation that has lead to Pharmageddon. But here we have a school that is decreasing class size. Student loans have not gotten harder to get, and students haven't stopped signing up for the nightmare we call pharmacy, so I can only assume that UF has some other, nefarious motive for lowering class size.

Didn't you read the first sentence in the news release?

Yes...

Amid state and national trends showing a decline in the demand for pharmacists and an increased emphasis on interprofessional, team-based approaches to care, the University of Florida College of Pharmacy is embarking on a four-year plan to lower its student-to-faculty ratio as part of ongoing curriculum reform.

UF does not come out anywhere near 250k. Try again.

News flash: "Amid state and national trends showing a decline in the demand for pharmacists and an increased emphasis on interprofessional, team-based approaches to care, the University of Florida College of Pharmacy is embarking on a four-year plan to lower its student-to-faculty ratio as part of ongoing curriculum reform."

Yeah the saturation has nothing to do with this. Get real.

It's probably a combination of factors. Why aren't more programs closing?

I like it. Can I use this?

Since you are living it, you certainly may.

You certainly came close

You are thinking of someone else. I came out around 140k. Still high but not 250k. I personally would not have gone into pharmacy for 250k. I don't know what I would have done but probably not pharmacy.

I can see clearly in this post why some members are deemed level headed enough to become moderators and positive contributors to this community, and why others are just trolls after 10+ years.

How long have you been on SDN? How many posts do you have already? Half of it is bragging about the GI bill and the other half is bashing our country.

Encouraging others to take the leap into actually doing something for their country and being rewarded with the GI Bill is not bragging.

Disagreeing with the majority decisions in our Republic does not constitute bashing our country. While I align with the political minority, that does not mean that I have a problem with the country itself. I have a problem with the tyranny of the majority, something our founding fathers wanted to avoid.

Your argument has no merit.

Yes this country is full of crap. Please dont come back.

Anyone know if the program had any accreditation issues? Or they may have had their accreditation under the umbrella of the larger UFCOP.

Read the first line in the news release. Do I need to spell saturation for you?

The St. Pete Campus is just as much a part of UF COP as the Gainesville campus. The program as a whole has not had any accredidation issues that I am aware of.

I wasn't sure if branch campuses had to get separately accredited or not. Thanks for clarifying.

Did someone say that job market wasn't a factor? I just think there could be other forces at play because saturation hasn't caused massive program closure yet.

You can't hide something this big. If it is also something else, they would have mentioned it in the news release.

Really, there is a saturation? But owlegrad is doing so well!

They did mention other things, like student-to-faculty ratio.

I think you must be obsessed with owlegrad. Your fascination with him is a bit desperate. You aren't his type.

You are always fond of him. Just look at how many "likes" you gave him. Sounds like a cougar to me. Lol

UF is changing its curriculum to become more laboratory based starting in 2015. Supposedly, this would require an additional investment in the campus's infrastructure. This is probobly one of the reasons (along with decline in demand for pharmacists) that St. Pete is getting axed.
