For those of you go to UF or USC, what do you like and dislike the most about the school? I'm trying to decide between the two for dental school, and I'm having a lot of trouble, because I feel like I don't know enough about either. Also, I'm not a Florida state resident.

It doesn't matter. Whichever is much cheaper.

I am sure USC is a good school! I have never even seen the place so there is not much I can say there, however as a student at UF I am happy to say I love it here.

I know everyone is going to tell you that it does not matter, but I think that if you can be more happy at one place why not be happy?

I like UF for the following reasons:
1. I like my classmates
2. I like my professors
3. I like the classes and course loads (for the most part)

Not everything is sugar and candy, there are some classes I don't like, some professors that are not my best friends, but life is good and I like what I am doing.

I hope this helps

UF hands down. Better graduation rate and way lower price tag.

jb!🙂

do take into consideration that USC runs on PBL and from what i've heard, has alot of unhappy students.

I have actually attended both USC (dental school) and UF (Postdoc) fellowship. SC is a bit pricier, but I lived at the beach for four years. I hated coming home and being able to jog on the beach or surf. terrible. Gainesville is nice but you can't get out of it easily and theres not a lot to do here. (downtown gets old quick, tand there are only a few nice restaurants everything else is corporate).

As far as dental schools go, they all are very stressful and demand a lot of time. Either way when you get a degree you will be in quite a sum of debt. Your choice how to pay it off. Personally the schools I interviewed at were a fraction of the cost. When would I have the chance to spend my early twenties living at the beach, watching three (yes three) heisman trophy winners.

If you graduated in 2003 (I'm assuming becasue of your name), were you PBL or Lecture? Not sure when they made the 100% conversion.

I posted this on another thread but it can pertain here:

It may have alrady been mentioned but COST is a HUGE consideration. No matter where you go if you graduate you will be a doctor. I would say in order of importance consider:
1.) Cost - you will be paying back loans and interest for many years to come. It has a huge impact.
2.) Patient Pool - The more pateints in the system or waiting for treatment the better. It increases your opportunity for learning and practicing your skills
3.) Location - soemtimes being close to family is important. Sometimes a school will hold a regional board exam you are interested in making the process easier for you.
Good Luck!😀

You should be a FL resident after your 1st year. I have to say that for what I am going into (oral surg) UF has prepared me well. I got lots of surg experience and academic preparation. For other disciplines in dentistry, good patients can be hard to come by. I would say that most of my good patients come from more than an hour's drive away, which can be a pain in the arse. Presently our clinic system (discipline based, which I believe USC has also?) is an inefficient nightmare. However, they are changing this fall. We have a lot of full time faculty, but lots are retiring soon. I can honestly say our clinical education is just OK. There may be lots worse, but you can certainly do better. If you are a hard worker and show initiative, you can get lots out of what is offered here. If you want to have everything spoon fed to you, you are going to be one POS dentist.
