I got in too! I am so pumped for Florida this year! I can't wait to play in that sparkly new hospital.
why did they have to go and change the OOS tuition rule now!?? Its going to be a tough week figuring all this out. 🙁
adunastella, I've tried to send you messages on here but don't think they're getting through (?) - got yours though and want to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! 😀👍
Didn't want you to think I'm not responding, I'm trying - sorry if you get multiples of the same message on account of that. Sent folder keeps showing I haven't sent anything although I did. Weird. Anyway, you can also reach me at the following e-mail address: [email protected]
Any Jax area folks who want to talk vet stuff, feel free to write me. E-mail may be the only way I can respond. 🙁
CONGRATS to all who are in, and to those who aren't, keep your chin up and don't give up!
Hopefully before you all are done there, I'll be accepted in too.
Well.... If you've got marriage in mind in the next couple years, that's a likely loophole in the OOS tuition. 😉
Although I'll admit that this goes against my statistical theory that people should wait until they're 25 to get married. 😛
I have decided to take the Animal Science and Animal Nutrition courses at Oklahoma State through correspondence... is anyone else doing this or has anyone already taken these courses at OSU? Just curious how do-able it will be to finish them over the summer or if I would be better off taking them at UF.... The reason I rather not take them at UF is because I plan on buying a house up there, and I doubt that will happen before classes start May 10....
Aparrently I can't do that. On the letter it states that my tuition will be fixed at $44,192 per year regardless of changing residency status or an increase in tuition.
Have you looked into the Animal Science/Nutrition classes at Kansas State? That's where I took mine. I completed them in about two months.
i found out on saturday that i got waitlisted :/ I've been accepted at Western but i really want to go to UF, so I'm not sure what to do yet... Who else got a letter saying they're on the alternate list??
didnt get in 🙁. Im headed to Edinburgh for 5 years! at least i have something to look forward to. I'll def be doing a lot of traveling
Thanks Kaelurus! I am actually in a similar situation myself. I live in Gainesville as well, and I have a spare bedroom (with private bathroom) in my 2 bedroom townhouse that I am looking to rent (preferably to a vet student 🙂) for $450 a month. I live within 5 minutes of campus and directly on a bus route. If anyone is interested please let me know!
Katiejo and LilyFrog,
My boyfriend and I are renting out our spare bedroom. One (or both, if you really want to get cozy) could rent it for the summer if you like. I have a dog and 2 cats, and can't fit anymore animals in the house, though. I will also be taking the summer courses at UF. Live in study group!![]()
unfortunately I dont have a fenced in backyard 🙁 I wish I did though. I just walk my dog to the dogpark down the street from me on a regular basis so he can get his exercise and play time
Squirrel Ridge? If so, I probably see you all of the time!
Thanks for that offer! I decided to go ahead and sign up for the correspondence courses through Oklahoma so that I have more time to find a house. Looks like we are all gonna have houses that need roomates, lol... though I would not mind renting from someone if they have a big, fenced-in yard and wouldn't mind my two labs and could put up with me for four years, ha, jk, I am very laid-back 😉
Renting in Gainesville has gotten pretty difficult. Before the housing bust, everyone thought it was a good idea to buy property to either rent to students, or live in (with roommates) while they went to school. The price of property was sky-high, and the result is a flooded rental market causing the price of rent to drop to a point that it won't cover the mortgage on many of these over-priced houses. I don't recommend buying a house with the intention of paying for it with roommates. Buy a house you can afford on your own, and if you find a roomie to help cover the bills, its a bonus.
In my case, I went back to school after a career as an environmental consultant. I could afford my house on my own when I bought it, but decided to rent my spare bedroom to help cover bills when I went back to school. Finding someone that you are willing to let into your home is VERY difficult, and I have gotten burned enough times that I am not actively seeking to fill the room anymore. The way I see it, if I meet someone through school that is looking, and if they are a good fit, then I will rent. If not, well, I am perfectly happy having my home to myself 😀
Not to put a damper on it or anything, just trying to offer a bit of perspective.
Or if there are any UF student lurkers out there, I'm trying to get a question answered - do students get to work with animals at all before clinicals start in the 2nd summer? Ie, like catheters and palpitations and such?
I swear I saw a post about this from a UF student but I can't find it for the life of me. Something about bat necropsies as well.....
I don't know much, but I do know the first spay/neuter is early in the 4th semester. 😀
Hey guys,
So I am visiting my parents in Ocala for the weekend, and I kind of wanted to go visit the UF vet school on Monday, just to see what the facilities and everything looks like. Is this possible for someone to do? I also wanted to talk to someone in admissions but it's probably too late to try and arrange something since its already the weekend.
