Hi y’all! Super long because I am so torn, so sorry but TIA! I am so grateful to be in the position to have choices, but am also struggling making a decision. I 100% would get IS tuition for UGA and TAMU, and there’s a chance I would for UF as well (unique residency situation). TAMU and UGA IS tuition and fees are most comparable at about ~$100,000 give or take (still waiting on financial packets). UF seems a bit more expensive at about ~$120,000 but would be closer to family. I definitely will not be considering UF if I don’t qualify for IS tuition, but don’t know how to make the decision for such comparable tuition rates otherwise.
My current interests are in mixed animal medicine. My heart is with dogs, cats, and dairy cattle primarily, and I also want to leave specializing open if I find something in vet school I really like.
I toured college station and really liked it, and am touring canyon (where I’d spend my first 2 years thru TAMU VERO) this weekend. I plan to go to UGA accepted students day, and am deciding on whether I will based on residency for UF. I currently am thinking about aspects of curriculum/clinicals ab each school, location and city, and also the emotional connections I have.
UGA is where I’ve been lucky enough to call home the past 4 years and I love Athens with my whole heart. I have a great sense of community here, a job that would work with my hours if I want, and great friends outside of vet med. I have however heard some negative things about the new curriculum, but it seems like it’s minor and that UGA is working hard to fix all issues quickly.
TAMU VERO seems awesome in the sense I would get great rural experiences which I think would be an interest of mine, and an unbeatable student:faculty ratio my first two years. I also loved their facilities and hopefully would have a brand new small animal hospital to work in for my clinical years in college station. It’s new and far and scary though with no family or friends that I currently know nearby.
UF is near family and I used to always want to be a gator with strong family ties to that school. I don’t know much about experiences and opportunities but know that it’s still a great school. I don’t know if it’s worth the extra cost when I have other great options to choose from.
TLDR: I don’t know how to choose a school when tuition is comparable. Everyone keeps telling me I'll have a gut instinct but my gut is quiet lol. Are there any factors you think I should consider that may be less obvious when cost isn’t as much of a factor?
edit: also still waiting on Miss State decision, but even with Bardsley, tuition is very high compared to my other options. I liked their 2+2 curriculum though, and felt so welcome at their interview! Let me know if I'm crazy though haha
