Hi Everyone,
I received UH Hilo's supllemental and need some help!! I don't have a clear response for the first question- does the possiblity of living in Hawai'i appeal to you, if so why...
I love the outdoors and so I believe that I will fit right in but aside from that I don't have anything else.
Any advices will be greatly appreciated!!
THANKS!!!

That reply seems vague...you could do well being outdoorsy in a lot of different places as long as it wasn't in a big city. I would put down something more specific-and also how you would handle being away from your family and friends (if you are not living in HI now). Being outdoorsy seems very general in a response. Do you think you could handle island fever? (yes people do get it...not being able to drive away from a place would drive people insane) These are just a few questions you should consider when writing your response.

Use an example of what you love doing in the outdoors...and then tell them somewhere on the Big Island you could do that. There's a lot to do on the Big Island especially, in addition to the other islands (The interisland flights are never THAT much...just don't use GO!)

Island fever is very real, and the style of living is much different from the mainland. Or that's what I thought. 😎

I can give you my opinion after living in Hawaii for .. What is it now.. almost 17 years? I was basically raised here. 😀

Most individuals from Hawaii pride themselves on the state's "Aloha spirit." The sense of community, caring, and giving. There is a big sense of family in Hawaii. Remember-- Hawaii is very small as compared to other states! After you live here for a while, you really start to know (or know of) everyone's brother, sister, uncle, cousin, whatever! Just the other day, a friend commented on a picture of my co-workers and I at a bbq.. She said, "Hey isn't that ____? That's my sister's husband's step-brother!" Many, MANY people in Hawaii are all connected to each other in some way.

I hope that makes sense. The sense of community is very strong. Sorry for going off on a little tangent. My point is-- If I were to answer that Q, I'd incorporate that into the essay. Saying that you like the outdoors seem to be a bit of a generic response.. (In my opinion) You could say that about multiple places.

now i'm in a bit of a panic over this thread...UH Hilo is one of the schools I want to attend, and I haven't submitted PharmCAS yet!

Argh....gotta hammer out this personal statement so I can get the supplemental too!!!:scared:
