You turned in you app last year as in some time between sept to december 2008? There is really no one to call. There are lots of people who have not been called for interviews, that doesn't mean they have been rejected. There are I think 4 interview dates they have not sent out invites for yet. So just be patient it looks like you are probably a well rounded candidate since you have invites for three other schools. My advice, Concentrate on those three schools for now then you will be very ready for UH when they do send you an invite.

Thanks 🙂 I'm a UT-Austin student 🙂 UH is tied with Austin on my choice list out of the four I'm applying too (A&M and Tech). I have not decided which one though, just hoping that I get into either one is fine with me 🙂 If I'm lucky enough to get into both than I'll be happy to make a decision from there =D

oh, hi Feng! I remember you from my interview =D I was in your teamwork thingy group ^^

HI! That's so cool we're communicating on SDN. Well I was really happy with our team! 🙂 everyone was really nice! Well I hope you get into UT too, but let's hope that we both get in to UH! :xf:

Thanks I submitted my application in december. I was just hoping I would get into U of H...

I did 🙂 It was actually really fun 🙂 The interviewees were all nice and talking to each other and the pharmacy students were really sociable and talked to us all the time =D The teamwork activity was fun too! (The only bad part about that is the 15 people behind us watching... 😛 )

So glad I didn't have to write an essay though! Just a personality test 🙂

glory4england did you get deferred at UT?

Hello! About how long after the interview will we hear back from the adcom? two weeks?

Yes it is normally about two weeks after the interview may up to 3 or 4 weeks but everyone who is accepted right away should find out on the same day.

I interviewed on 02/20 and I know it is too soon to expect a letter; however, I was curious if a prospect is tabled when does the applicant find out the outcome of being tabled. When are tabled applicants accepted or denied? Is it after all the interviews, May 1st?? Thank you.

It's probably only a little while longer until the applicants who interviewed on 2/20 find out something.

If you are not out right denied following your interview, you will be reviewed in each subsequent comittee review until you are either accepted or denied at that point. Being tabled means they just want to look at your file some more against the people that are coming in to interview, so interviewing early is a positive because you are looked at more often.

I don't know if what I just said made any sense, even to me, but just because you're tabled doesnt mean you have to wait until the end. You could be accepted in the next round of offers.

Does anyone know if UH does a point system like A&M...or is one component (say the interview) weighed more heavily than the others?

As far as I know, UH doesn't have a point system. GPA, PCAT and extracurricular are only going to help you secure an interview. After that, it all hinges on the interview which has three components --the one-on-one interview with a faculty, group exercise and personality test (they did away with the writing since they are probably using the PCAT for that now). I'm not sure but I think all 3 are equally weighted. Do well on all three and you'll likely see an acceptance. UH, like UT, has rejected applicants with 4.0 GPA and 99 PCAT in the past.

Thanks!! Wow so much is at stake.

Just had the interview yesterday, the 27th, and it was terrific. The environment made you feel very relaxed.

That team exercise was a bit freaky though. 😱

Just to make sure, do many candidates find out right away if they are accepted or rejected?
Or is it just a few brilliant ones that are accepted right away and the avg candidates waitlisted?

When was your interview? That is one of my concerns too. I would think only the few brilliant and personable are accepted right away.

If by accepted right away you mean given an offer on the spot that day, then no they don't do that. It generally takes a couple of weeks after you interview before you can possibly be accepted. If not, you may be deferred or rejected. And just because you are waitlisted didn't mean you are not brilliant or personable either, remember that.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood CPhTtoPharmD.

By brilliant I meant those fellow interviewees I met who have BS usually in biochem/chem, with research experience, pharmacy experience and all those extras that makes them stand out. Didn't mean to cause offense. I actually consider myself as one of the average candidates I had mentioned earlier.

There was no offense taken, don't worry. 😀

And I guess this make me best friends with somebody very soon! I have declined my offer at UH. :horns:

I sincerely hope the best for whoever gets the spot.

To answer your question. It is not always poeple who have these things that get notified of their acceptance in two weeks and not waitlisted. I do not have a BS or research experience. But I got one of the first acceptances last year. It all depends on if they find you a very strong candidate.

so there is no longer an essay portion during the interview? and what's the group excercise?

i'm one of the many that still has not heard back from UH yet but still hopeful:xf:. i've got an interview for TAM on march 12 and i'm a nervous wreck right now!

I submitted my application a week before the deadline. I still haven't heard anything and it's already March. Is it pretty much a safe bet that I am not getting an interview? When does UH send out rejections?

I just emailed them and they said that my application hasn't been reviewed by the committee yet. So don't lose hope

Yes, there is no longer a writing portion to the interview. For the group exercise, first you will be asked to work on a scenario on your own. Then, they will group you with 4 or 5 applicants and you will try to come up with a solution to the same problem AS A GROUP.

There are still two interview dates left. They will probably send out the invites towards the end of March AND April because they don't send out invites until approx one month before the interview.

Do any of the current students know when the accepted will receive information about registration, financial aid, and other information. I guess I'm just excited and cannot wait to begin my pharmacy education.

Okay, got it. Thanks Ethyl Methyl!

One correction: towards the end of March AND the beginning of April. I didn't realize I left that out.

To answer you question you will not register or get financial aid for quite some time. But there will be an email sent out to all the accepteesin a couple of weeks that has a website address. The website is a pharmacy orientation website. This lets you know whats going on and what documents you will need to send in before orientation. Oh by the way UH has a three day orientation before classes start. It can be kind of boring, but this is also a great time to get to know a little bit about you classmates before classes actually start.

I was the same way about wanting it to start right away, and did not listen to upperclassmen about just relaxing this summer. So trust me when I say just have fun this summer cause you have your work cut out for you this coming year.

I have a question.

I've spoken with a few people from the second wave of interviewees and they have no received any response from UH. I was part of the third wave of interviews (2/27/09). Should this mean that when the adcoms meet to decide who gets accepted, they are also looking at the third wave along side with that second wave?

What i'm trying to say is will they be sending out acceptance/decline letters to both 2nd/3rd waves at the same time? Or did they already meet to decide who gets accepted from that second wave and will meet later on again for the third wave?

I believe UH does a rolling admission which means they will continuously look at the previous applicants. That is why it is better to get an earlier interview. Correct me if I am wrong.

Aside from helping with the interview process, we, as students are completely removed from the selection process. We do not know when they meet. We do not know when they send out letters. We do not even know who they (adcoms) are. Additionally, I often wonder how they determine who, in their opinion, is the best candidate.. I wish each of you luck, but unfortunately there are some questions we just cannot answer truthfully.

you can email them and they will tell you your status like not if you got accepted or rejected but they should tell you whether you have been reviewed by adcom yet. I sent an email and the director of admissions for pharm D sent me something back.

http://pharmacy.uh.edu/fs/pharmd/contactus.php

i went to the that link and filled out the little box and he sent me a response within 20 minutes.

WoooHoooo I got in!!!! =D
Got an email this evening!

Congragulations to everyone who got an acceptance email. It is an extraordinary feeling. For those who are still waiting to hear from the school, do not lose hope.

^^ Do you know if acceptance emails are sent in one day or is it possible that more acceptances will be sent out tomorrow?

Thanks 🙂

They didn't mention anything like that at the interview so its hard to say. All they told us there was that we'd hear back by snail mail in 3-5 weeks. I looked back at last year's thread and the 2nd round found out 13 days after their interview. Yesterday was the 13th day from our interview so I was expecting something, although I'm surprised we found out so late in the day. Last year it seemed like they all found out on one day though. But that was last year.

Anyway keep up hope and keep checking your email.
