For those of you attending/waitlisted/applying to UIC, is the behavioral science requirement still in place? I'm taking Adolescent Psych as my second course in a psychology sequence SOLELY because of UIC, but I really do not want to take it.

Do any other schools but UIC have this requirement? It seems so random.

Also, for those of you who have this years MSAR, check out the UIC entry. After the heading "Sent to:" under "Secondary Applications", instead of writing either "All Applicants" or "Screened Applicants," it says "UIC College of Medicine-Admissions." Think about it. 🙂

In the MSAR book, there's a Secondary Applications section for UIC that says "Sent to:"

This option is generally reserved for either "All applicants" or "Screened Applicants" referring to whether EVERY applicant or selected applicants get a secondary. Instead of answering THAT questions, it says "UIC College of Medicine-Admissions" referring to where you would actually SEND your secondary application.

UIC behavioral science requires 3 courses, 2 of which must be in the same discipline (so, if you took entry level psych before adolescent you are golden as long as you took something else that can be construed as b.s.). Also consider applying to Iowa as they have a very similar requirement starting this year.

Wow, I hadn't noticed this requirement when I submitted my AMCAS on friday. As a bioengineering major, I doubt I have satisfied it. Does anyone have any ideas/examples of what might meet the requirement of three courses in "social science with an emphasis on behavioral science?" Maybe I wasted $30 and need to add a different school...

Psychology courses come to mind when I try to think of "social sciences classes emphasizing behavioral sciences." You could also utilize public policy, political science, sociology etc. to fill this requirement. My 3 for UIC will be as follows:

Intro to Developmental Psych (Psych-Intro)
Adolescent Psych (Psych-100 Level)
Children & the Experience of Illness (Public Policy-100 Level)

I'm hoping these are sufficient.

A while back I called UIC to check on this requirement. I was specifically wondering since I had already taken two "Behavior Science Courses" (and if you are wondering what counts as a Beh. Sci. course check the AMCAS listings @ http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/2007amcasinstrucfinal.pdf page #76) if the third had to be a Psych course. Although she recognized that the 3 Behavior Science courses were still required, she said two don't necessarily have to be in a sequence or even in the same field. FYI.

I called the other day and got a really vague answer. But if thats true--I took Pysch, Sociology, and Economics...I should be ok 😕

Yep...vague would be a good way to describe my discussion too. I would call and say, "I took A, B, and C...does this satisfy your requirement". And then dont hang up till you get a yes, a no, or a restraining order.
