Counting PI Recommendation Towards Science Professor Requirement

My former PI from my lab has agreed to write me a recommendation letter, and I was wondering if this letter would qualify towards meeting the requirement of a rec letter written by a science professor whose course you've taken. I had my PI as a professor for organic chemistry I, so I think it will, but I believe he will primarily talk about his impressions from our research in the contents of the letter. As such, I was wondering if this letter would meet the requirement, assuming he briefly talked about his impressions from the course
