Can anyone that goes to Peoria or Chicago tell me why there may be a significant difference in residency match results between the different campuses??? For those of you in Peoria, what do you think of the program/location...etc. are you happy there?
I don't think I'd ever want to end up in Peoria, but these match results make me wonder if the program is that much better our there.

Looking at percentages of those receiving their first choice...

Year 2001
Peoria: 76%
Chicago: 49%

Hey, I've never personally been to Peoria or Rockford, but I know people who are there. It's a small class that goes to Urbana ~25-30people and then my guess is half and half to Peoria and Rockford. That's a huge difference from the class size at Chicago site which is hundred-something ( i think!)

Anyways, my friend LOVED it in Urbana. She said it was pretty laid back and liked the small class size and atmosphere. She's in Rockford right now and thinks its all right....

From what I have heard though, Peoria is the better of the two in terms of facilities and stuff....and you get free housing.

I have the Urbana/Rockford track 🙁 so I'll prolly end up there if I don't get in anywhere else.

oh yeah..what i also wanted to add but forgot was

its prolly i higher residency match for peoria..just because you have a smaller population there.....

I'm sure its not because urbana/peoria has a better school and facilities.....

Chicago is the best track in terms of patient population and stuff...i would do anything to switch.

Rockford is my hometown - I live about a mile from the med school there.

I just matched to Kern County in CA and I'm going to Peoria. I got to say our cirriculum is a lot more rigorious but with our match statistics its worth it. We work hard here but that's what med school is suppose to be. We work hard but when we take our boards, shelf exams, do away rotations all that hardwork shows. Kern was my top choice and during the match day lunch, everyone at my table got their 1st pick, which includes surg at emory, harvard, and MCOW, Ortho at Kentucky.

We also have a hospital that have multiple residency programs, so what does this mean? All the attendings need to be at the top of their games to teach residents, so that benefits the med students. This also means people at Peoria will know you as a person and team member if you want a residency spot here.

We also average higher USMLE scores than Rockford for as long as anyone can remember. We always score higher than the national average at our campus.

Peoria also has free housing for those who qualify.

I'm originally from Cali., I initially thought I wanted to be in Chicago. After 4 years, ending up in Peoria was one of the best things to have ever happened to me.

I'll post up a complete match list when I find it. Its impressive.

Thank you for this post. I am in a very similar situation, coming from Cali. I originally applied to the Chicago campus because of its focus on urban medicine, but I just found out today that I got into the Peoria campus. I'm honestly a little disappointed I didn't get into the Chicago campus, but I'm very happy to hear that Peoria students get matches at competitive residencies. I can't wait to see the complete list.

Also, does anybody have the match list for the Chicago campus, so that I can compare the two? Much appreciated...
