I just got an interview to UIC....
I have been trying to research the school a little to be prepared for the interview, but am having a difficult time.
Help please. 😀

read the interview feedback. it does a good job of letting you know what it's like.

the interview is pretty laid back - you have 2 interviews, 30 minutes each, one-on-one - it can be closed or open file, depending on what the interviewer wants to do (i had one open and one closed). then you have a tour, talk with current students, etc.

the feedback should prepare you, though.

Thank you for replying.
I have already read the interview feedbacks, but I am still a little nervous.
I am not sure how I should answer "why UIC"?
I have personal reasons (my brother and cousins live in Chicago, strong support system). I am not sure if I should mention the academic curriculum (which I know nothing about). I want to talk about how I would like to specialize and would have the opportunity to gain exposure to the different specialties that UIC has (Perio, Endo, Ortho,....). I would also like to discuss my community involvement and how I would like to participate in the community-based dental outreach program that dental students are able to participate in. Other than that I am not sure what I should/should not say.
How did you answer that question? Did you hear from them yet?
Thank you.

hey dentalrs, congrats on the interview.

Are you a resident of Illinois? I'm asking because I also applied there, but I'm from CA. If you're not from IL, may I ask what your stats are? Thanks.

this is really good to talk about.

it looks like you have plenty to talk about - the 30 minutes fly by, so don't sweat it.

i did some research on the school and i talked about what i liked about it (including the community-based program) and why i like chicago and such. i got my acceptance letter, so i guess it worked 🙂 - i'm an IL resident, too, for what it's worth.

Congratulations!!!!!!
I am out-of-state, so I am a little worried.
I am going to talk about how I have a strong support system in Chicago, my brother and cousins live in Chicago. UIC is my number one choice and hope that I get accepted. How long after your interview did you get an acceptance letter?
I hope I become your classmate next year.
Take care and good luck.

I am actually a CA resident myself.
My GPA is not that competitive (3.0), but I am currently doing a masters at UCLA. I have strong DAT scores, and a lot of research experience
PAT:19
RC: 19
QR: 20
Bio: 20
G-Chem: 25
O-Chem: 21
TS: 22
AA: 21
Good luck....I really hope you get an interview (Chicago need some California sunshine).

the 2nd round of acceptances went out on january 23rd - anyone accepted at that meeting has until february 22nd to accept the offer, so there will probably be another adcom meeting shortly after to determine the 3rd wave of acceptances.

I was accepted on the 2nd round...Regarding being out of state, I think this is a major disadvantage, primarily because if you look at the numbers from previous years, they did not accept any out of state last year, and only 1 each year before that.

this isn't necessarily true
those years, only that number of out of staters actually attended UIC - it doesn't necessarily mean they didn't accept anyone from out of state

I actually saw the number of out of staters who were interviewed last year, and it was only 1 student out of thousands.
