Has anyone heard any updates about UIC OMFS program? When I visited there, nothing really stood out except for having Dr. Miloro as a chairman. They started out with 3 interns and 2 first yr. residents last July. Now it's down to 1 intern and 1 first yr. What is going on there?

I interviewed there. I ranked it very highly. Good people, good program. Miloro wants to bring in a craniofacial guy. Scope geared more towards private practice, but enough variety. No crazy trauma because Cook Co. up the street. Really good group of residents though.

Give Miloro a few years and this will be a great program. I interviewed there in '09 and thought it was a good private practice-oriented program, but definitely had the potential of becoming more. He's already got the 6-year track started as promised, and he was planning on picking up more trauma at another hospital (can't remember which).
Plus, Chicago is an awesome city...
As for people dropping out... You never really know what happens, it may not be reflective of the program.

The "drops outs" at UIC...
the first year resident decided oral surgery was not for them....and there is a new first year who transferred and started in December.

The other two drop outs were interns. One was accepted into a dental anesthesia program for next year and quit when she found out. The other had some personal issues and is now working as a GP at a new office in the area.
